Looking for a fabric that is durable yet fairly quiet. I want to make a soft shell hooded jacket. Currently searching on ripstop by the roll. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
I ordered some fabric samples from Rockywoods the other day for some pants or shorts I’m wanting to make, and one of them was their 94/6 NySpan durable stretch woven. Comes in a few good color options. Probably a little thicker than I want for summer pants, but I bet it would make a great soft shell jacket. It feels like a tough fabric but has good stretch. Hard to say how quiet it would be as a jacket, but I don’t think it would be terrible. Their samples are pretty cheap. About $18/yard
Polar-tec Neo shell is actually about as quiet as it gets for a "waterproof material" Its not fleece but its similar noise wise to most DWR stuff but is actually waterproof.
