Duplex Timberline 3 or Timberline 3

Yes the stays are 26". Neither one of us would use anything else.

That is a good point that Shrek makes about the size too. I would personally skip the dt3 bag and get one of the bigger bags.

This isn't the best pic but it's what I have on my phone right now. Littlebuf and myself with T1's used as day packs while bear hunting last year.

What you don't get from that picture is how small the T1 bag will pack down when empty. Yes it's big but it collapses down well. Just something to think about.

Yep. Go big or go home. Haha. Seriously the big packs will cinch down very small. If rather cinch down then try to expand a pack

This discussion has been had one or thee times and I've never heard anyone who's been talked into a bigger bag come back and say they regretted getting the big bag but I do remember guys saying they wished they had gone big. I talked myself into the 4800 high camp and then immediately turned around and bought a T1 bag. You need to understand that the Timberline bags volume includes the spotter pockets and that the main bag isn't as big as it seems on paper.

I wore my DT1 day hunting elk this year and was not a big fan. I'm obviously in the minority here, but I found it too cumbersome for my liking, even cinched down. By the end of each day, I was kinda over it. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome for hauling in several days worth of gear, and by necessity I could live with it once camp was dropped and out hunting for the day, but if given the choice, I'd 1000x rather have my T3 on my back when day hunting.

Ill give you my 2 cents on backpacking to 80 or so lb loads with the bikini and standard timberline suspension. Luckily I wanted a high camp bag so I didn't have to ponder wether to get the bikini or standard. I did own a t1 though, and truth be told I miss it a little.

I will say, with a standard backpacking load I like the bikini more. The bikini is still comfortable to move with, but gives you a solid feeling no matter what's in the bag. You can swap bags should you choose. And the weight is roughly the same.

The standard t series suspension was comfortable as well, a little more flexible and I thought it was more comfy from 30-50lbs.

If I had to choose today between the two, I'd have a hard time. Had they come out with an internal frame highcamp, I'm not sure which direction I would go. I do like that I can get another t series bag though instead of dumping another 600 on a whole setup.

No experience with the duplex, and limited experience with heavy load hauling, but I have carried quite a few backpacking weight loads with the bikini and standard timberline frames. IMO you can't go wrong with either really.

Thanks again for the replies. One more question - I was looking at the website and the regular timberline 3 bag isn't offered in multicam, but the duplex timberline 3 bag is. Does anybody know why this is? Are they phasing out multicam (I know there is a sale on multicam, but I though only olive drab was getting phased out)? Any thoughts?
