I have a dumb question I’m sure. When I decided to get a hells canyon 7 backcountry, I decided to buy a new rifle and have it sent to them. They told me to get a .270 so that’s what I did and sent to them to barrel. Before I shoot this thing, is everything else okay? Any other part that I need to change? Just don’t want a “kaboom” when I shoot lol.

Yes, everything should be good. Nothing else to do now except make sure of no obstructions in the bore. Load and shoot!

Im not trying to be a dick with this comment, but regular use at 80000 psi is a gamble I wouldnt be wanting to take with that rifle. Hope it works for you, but I am surprised someone would build a 7 Backcountry off that action.

I know what you mean, and 7 BC doesn’t necessarily appeal to me personally. But regarding the question at hand, Proof is offering pre-fits for Tikka as well. I know this has been a point of discussion. Sorta the last word I read was that it was determined that the case was handling that pressure, and not the action itself. If it were a real issue, I don’t think Proof would be offering barrels.

I get what you are saying and you would expect anyone offering a 7BC would be well and truly sure of the given action's capability. I dont buy the premise that the cartridge handles the pressure rather than the action. I mean back-thrust on a standard bolt face is going to be less than a wider case like say a 338 Lapua, but 80k PSI has still got to generate a fair bit of force on the action as a whole, and the lugs especially.

The whole non-reloadable cartridge concept is a non-starter for me, so its not like I would even consider this route. Just the idea of that pressure in many actions that predate the 80K PSI offering makes me uncomfortable.

Well now you have me nervous…….I just thought it would be a really cool small rifle to play with and obviously hunt off of. Especially suppressed. Didn’t know there were major safety concerns.

When I called hells canyon originally going with the 280AI route, Mike asked if I reloaded. I told him no and never planned on starting so he suggested this. Said his two daughters use it and love it and have killed several deer and elk with it. I thought it would be a good route for deer/elk as well.

Man, unless you’re gonna burn that barrel out quickly, I honestly don’t believe there’s actual danger. I know this doesn’t change anything, but probably a few guys on here that are reloading into 80k psi on the norm. I understand that doesn’t make it safe. With those that are making barrels, if there were a big safety risk, I think we’d see a lot more about it.
