Hey guys,

I’m curious who all carries on a drop leg for backpack hunts and your experiences. I don’t want to holster on my belt in case the pack is off and have always enjoyed drop legs.
Cheers,

I've used a drop leg holster for years and it works very well for me. It is the most natural drawing position for me, it's always on me whether I drop my pack or not, and I just don't have enough room on my chest for one of those bino-harness holster deals.

Do a bit of a search. There are a few threads on this That may help.

I don’t care to have my pistol on my pack or bino harness. I remove both frequently during times I would want my pistol on me, like around camp or when taking breaks.

at the risk of repeating myself, I have bigger legs and thigh rigs tend to rub me raw, to the point of being a fire hazard.

I use a kydex holster mounted on a gadget from safariland called a UBL. It lowers the holster down to my hip joint low enough to clear my pack belt. Very popular among law enforcement and the military. It is rigid plastic so no strap is needed.

Other companies like blade tech and blackhawk make versions too. safariland also has a fork and plate detachment system that allows you to remove the holster from the UBL pretty easily.

Any issues with it hanging up on brush or anything? I saw a lot of guys on other places say they hated a drop leg for the backcountry.
Not to hijack a post but I'm looking at different options.

My gun weights 3.5lb loaded. Then in my Gunfighters it rides good but then add a bino bivy on top of it and I've got probably 6lb on my chest. And I'm not really a UL guy but it starts to make my shoulders sore. So the last thing I want is to hang that dumbell off my bino bivy with a Razco.

I looked at the Safariland but they don't make a holster for my Glock 40.

It doesn't get hung up any more than my backpack or bow/rifle/whatever else I'm carrying. Yes, it will occasionally catch on a branch or something but not enough for it to be a problem for me.

Look at S&S Precision, they make a holster extender that drops down 1.5" or 3" shooters choice. Then you just mount your holster of choice to it. I would personally stay clear of any leg strap in general for long movements. Especially if you already have issues with hot spots.
