Draw weight

My limbs are 40lb on a cheap galaxy ember 60” recurve. When I draw the bow back with a scale in my hand it only says 27-29 lb. I draw to about 27.25. Could this be right or am I missing something?

If you are drawing the string back to 28 inches with the scale, it should say 40lbs. If it does not I suspect you have an issue.

Scale is broken. Only says 45 on my 65 lb compound. Thanks, sorry for the dumb wuestion

FYI - rule of thumb is 3lb per inch of draw weight from the spec listed on the bow.
ie - 40@28 should be around 37@27 and 43@29
