Down jacket

What's a good warm down jacket that doesn't have a hood? Something with a good 800 or more fill power.

That can be a bit tough to find? However, I know that Montbell and Patagonia make some very high quality 800+ FP down jackets without hoods. I’m not aware of any hunting clothing firms that offer the same?

Feathered friends makes a good down jacket without hood.

If you want good quality down, but a lower fill-weight (ie 2oz of 850fp down vs 6oz of 850fp down), then there’s a bunch out there.

something to think about: you cannot use the hood if there is none but you do not need to don the hood if not needed and you have one. hope it make sense.

I'm all about a hood. But this is going to be a dedicated insulating piece under jackets with hoods

If an insulation piece it’s hard to go with a total weight beyond 14 - 16 ounces. I like the Stone Glacier Grumman at 11.8 ounces with 5.3 ounces of 850 down.

Ha I just bought the Grumman. Hoping if it doesn't work out with the hood then I'll either have someone remove the hood if it doesn't fit right under the other hood or I'll just have another puffer

I’m a non hooded down jacket guy as well. I run the kuiu super Down LT but the feathered friend Helios is on my to get list.

Personally I like them with a hood, i am using my down jacket in cold conditions and you lose a lot of heat from your head and neck.

If you keep your eyes on the website they will occasionally go on sale, my last hooded one from the "Bean" was sub $200(on sale) and is every bit as good if not better than the top tier camo brand's down jackets. Personally I like solid colors and hoods(warmth and sun protection) for most of my hunting clothing these days.

i ve been trained mountaineering and never used camo with down jackets ... for now im using decathlon and columbia and all is good but i still used them with hood. im using as well a primaloft one but they are way bulkier and heavier but they have their use as well.
