how is that? I've been around packs with frame sheets but no stays but I don't think I've ever been around one with stays but no rigid back. I do have a duplex ultralight but I don't think that really compares. Is there any point to this day's if you don't run a belt? Alternatively I have EDC pack with a frame sheet and no belt and that seems nice.
Sometimes with a belt, if I need a a little extra room and throw on a couple belt pouches or if I’m looking to keep it from bouncing around too much if I take it on a jog. However you could easily get by without one depending on your application. It’s a great little pack.
Thanks guys. my gut says this might be one of those packs that is a little bigger than you expected it to be when you get it in your hands. That's how the Apollo was for me. It seemed to be way big for the cubic inches. Is this one of those packs you think?
I'm not sure about 'one of those packs' specifically. I recently bought one in order to force myself to downsize the gear I take on scouting trips. I bought mine used over here in Australia and didn't get a belt with it.
I don't feel like I need a belt, but I've taken it on one big hike so far, with a fair amount of crap in it, and my shoulders were sore the next day. That's to be expected.
You can tighten the straps down nicely and make the bag really hug your back. For my summer scouting missions over here in Australia where I'm either culling animals I won't eat, or taking photos, I intend on bringing a camera, tripod, water, and maybe a first aid kit in it.
It's definitely longer/taller than you might first think, which works well for me. Keeps a tripod in it easily and is very skinny so you don't get hung up on stuff when you walk past it.
I'll do a little video review about it one of these days. I'm hugely impressed with it.
I travelled around Nashville and Memphis on a family vacation with mine this summer and didn’t have a belt. It was stuffed full with water, snacks, rain jackets, etc. I’d guess the weight around 15-20# total. It wasn’t too bad and really hugged my back well. Great for moving amongst crowds and on and off tour buses. Can’t say I wished I had a belt for that trip.
However, I did purchase a belt when I came home and have noticed I can load it heavier and carry it longer without it bothering my shoulders. Now, is it needed? Gonna depend on the lid and length of time carried. I did appreciate the extra belt pouches on the belt for smaller quick access items while scouting.
That's a good way to describe it regarding getting on and off buses, etc. I used mine as carry on for an overseas trip recently. Fit above seat well and was good to get on trains with, etc. This also translates to being great to sneak past and under scrub with when bowhunting. It really does hug you nicely, even without the belt.
I ordered a door gunner with a M belt but ended up replacing it with a S. Still got the M laying around in Ranger Green / Coyote Brown. All yours if the size/color works out and you don't mind throwing in for shipping.
