It can vary from 18-21 percent then Alberta is another 5 percent tax. Plus the 10 handling fee they charge.
Our last kuiu order just came in from the Black Friday sale and 740 dollars worth of stuff was 242 due at the post office.
Pretty ridiculous.

I definitely agree it's ridiculous, but we know it's how countries try to discourage citizens from buying internationally. It's an intentional restriction and penalty imposed by politicians. I'm pretty sure KUIU would love to sell to Canada knowing the government wouldn't be penalizing guys for buying it.

This canadian just made his last kuiu order. So have an 1850 icon pro as a day pack for elk, picked up a ultra bag on the 30% off sale. Well get it today and there is a duty charge in excess of the 30% saved. Not to mention the unfavorable exchange rate (new full well going in though)

I recall Jason mentioned over a year he was working on the duty/import thing for us Canadians. Guess that was just pulling our d***ks. To bad the northern market is too small to care about.

I do have multiple other pieces of kuiu gear and love them. But not worth it anymore for me.

Rant out. Flame away.

I am not sure what you are ranting about? As a Canadian buyer you should have know there would be duty. Price to pay for us Canadians buying south of the border and has absolutely nothing to do with Kuiu. I am not a part of the "Kuiu Cult" but have purchased some of there clothes knowing full well I would be raped on the duty charge, price to pay to look cool. As far as the "To bad the northern market is too small to care about" comment I am sure it is just not economically feasible for Kuiu to do this or it would have happened already. I am sure Jason wants to exploit as much of the outdoor/hunting market as he can both north and south of the border. I purchase a lot of gear from our southern neighbors and always have to factor in exchange and duty then weigh out if it is a good deal or a need vs want.

This is a Canadian government problem and not KUIU. A small company cannot maintain a distribution center in a foreign country just to help a few customers avoid tariff's. I am no fan of the KIUI crowd, although I do own some of their products. I would say the discount they offered offset the high import duties and therefore not a bad situation.

I shipped a friend from Canada a bow last year. He had to pay 150 bucks to pick it up! He wasn't too happy about it and I never could figure ou why he had to pay. I didn't put a value on it at all. I had to declare what it was.

If there is no value declared Canadian Customs has the right to determine what the goods are worth and apply duty as they see fit. I have found the best way to have something shipped from the US to Canada is USPS ground. Usually there is no duty this way.

Google says the current exchange rate is $1.00 CA = $.75 US. When you (Canadian) guys buy something from the US are you charged US dollars or CA? If the answer is US dollars (say $250) that equates to well over $300 CA at the current exchange rate.

I usually ship stuff I don't need right away to my in-laws in Wisconsin and pick it up on my yearly visit to them. I still declare the items at the border but since I usually visit and stay for a week or so I don't pay duty fees unless the value of what I'm bringing back exceeds the amount I'm allowed.
Best way for Canadians to avoid this situation is to buy Canadian or American made products :)

Always in US dollars when I buy from the states and it sucks but it is what it is.

The funny thing (sometimes not) is that I run into many Canada businesses which charge me U.S. dollars. An example is an outfitter...another is a bowyer. I end up paying more to do business in Canada than I think I should. Oh well...life is short and I don't have time to dwell on such matters.
