Anyone have a good recommendation for a thick coat dog hair trimmer? Our springer is in need of a good trim, can’t get a groomer now. We have a Wahl, and it is not good...too light duty. Yes have heard of some using horse hair trimmers.

Suggestions?

We used to borrow the cow trimmers from the farm when we used to trim our springer. First time was a little interesting as they were not quiet and he wasn’t so sure about it.

Not sure if there is much if any difference between horse/cow trimmers. This was also 20 years ago.

Currently have labs and I don’t trim anymore. Once they start shedding my wife takes them to the pet wash that has a vacuum/brush to dry with and gets most of it out there.

I’ve got setters and have always given them haircuts myself (I don‘t care how they look, I‘m just interested in keeping them trimmed up).

Don‘t mess around with the pet shop clippers. Go with some professional series of clippers from a brand like Andis that will run cool and are powerful enough to get the job done quickly.

My clippers will buzz through my setter’s dirty fur and cockle burs with no trouble. I have a narrow blade for getting the hair between their toes, too.

I second investing in a professional grade set of clippers ive had a Wahl KM series 2 speed for 10 + years and it’s been great. Number 10 blades would be a good all around blade for grooming needs for pets and usually comes standard when you buy a kit. I would also recommend a number 30 or 40 blade as well these produce fine/surgical grade shaves and might be helpful for areas you want to have basically no hair on. Lots of good choices out there Oster makes good clippers too.
