Does anyone know if the meateater promo code for the Chefsteps Joule sous vide cooker still works?

Put it in at checkout and find out. Or check out this Anova precision cooker. Considerably cheaper, and on sale on Amazon now (bluetooth version is $120). I have it and it's been rock solid.

thanks for that heads up. Articles I read had either he anova or the joule as the best one, but for $115 vs $180 how can you pass up the Anova.

Some of the most recent Amazon reviews of the Anova are bad. Seems like softeware, wifi, App issues.

Anova has $135, 900 watt wifi, manual dial, and blue tooth. Best thing is there is a manual dial on it. The Anova 800 watt is blue tooth and manual for $119. I bought the Joule non stainless for $179 with wifi and blue tooth. The Joule is smaller heats water a bit quicker at 1,100 watts, seems to have a bit better software, but no manual dial, that's why it's smaller.

If you are up to it, I would also keep an eye out on E-bay. Lots of folks get these as presents or think they will use them and never do. I picked one up essentially new for 70 bucks last year. Still works great.

I recently returned my Anova and purchased the Joule. I looked all over for a promo code and from everything I saw, it seems as though they stopped doing discounts on the Joule completely. Overall, I do prefer the Joule over the Anova, especially due to the compact size and 900 watts. The only reason that I returned the Anova is due to the beeping that would cause my dog to freak out.

Thanks for all the input guys. I did end up buying the wifi enabled anova since it was on sale on amazon. Hopefully there is no software issues as one of you suggested (amazing we have software issues with cooking appliances nowadays). I'm just excited to cook some backstraps with that thing. Mouth is already watering.

Are there any out there that are just straight manual dials for cheap? I don't even have wifi and dont wanna spend the money on software I cant use

The 800 watt Anova at Amazon 800 has a dial and blue tooth. It's very popular, and it's $109 at Amazon. There are less expensive ones that are manual, but I don't know about the quality. Take a look at Amazon for prices and reviews of less expensive units, there are a bunch.
