Does anyone wait for warranty to run out before modifying?

I just bought a tikka with an unthreaded barrel. The cost of the un threaded version plus cost to thread was cheaper than buying the threaded version. Issue I’m facing now is if I have it cut/threaded I’ll most likely void warranty. Does it matter? Considering just getting some factory loads, making sure they’ll group decent enough and then getting the work done.

Nothing wrong with shooting it first, rarely do Tikkas pop up with issues that would require addressing under warranty, but it does happen. I have had 2 cut; nothing changed except velocity, they still liked the same loads as before the cut.

I didn't chrono before the cut on the first one, but I lost almost exactly 40fps per inch from advertised velocities. Federal showed their factory velocity as 2870 from a 24" barrel. I was getting 2705 after cutting to 20". This was with a 7RM but I'd think it would translate to the .243 as well.

The second one is very close to the same.

I pretty much assume that the warranty was void as soon as they sold it to me. And before anybody chimes in..hell with the resale, I bought that shit for me

I've cut barrels on brand new rifles. Tossed high comp heads on new dirtbikes. Swapping internals on revolvers, spray paint, etc etc.

Send it!

I don't. Pulled an unfired tikka barrel once, set it off to be threaded, and then screwed it on to a different action.
