Does anyone use TAC in their 6x45?

I'm going to try some loads with TAC.
Also working up some with CFE 223.
I have some Win748 I have considered too. Anybody done these in a 6X45?

A little Hodgdon data, but other than that I'm taking forum information and being conservative with it and comparing to 5.56 load data for 77-90 grain bullets.

I’m about to start load development with TAC in my 6x45 with the 87s. My buddy gave me a bucket full of once fired 6x45 FC nickel brass. It will work perfect for prairie dog hunts to keep the brass separate for the two rifles.

Did some load work with TAC this morning. This was with a 20” Bartlein 7.5 twist barrel. This barrel has been a little on the slow side, but very accurate. All shooting done at 410 yards. None of the groups were over 3/4 MOA but 25.5 and 27.0 shot the best. Picture below is 27.0, group size is just over 2”, right at 1/2 MOA. No pressure signs, easy bolt lift and primers all looked the same. These were all loaded .030” off the lands but I will try 27.0 at .020 and .040” to see if the groups are any different.

Can you verify COAL from this? Did I read 2.8xx”?!

The overall length written is kind of confusing. That is the actual length using a Hornady comparator. I can measure the actual overall length when I get back from shooting this evening.

OAL for this load is 2.385”

I found that .040” shot slightly better and had a lower ES/SD. They all shot very tight.

Not sure who else shot these at deer this fall. I knew it would work based on others 87 vmax results. I never saw a buck I wanted to shoot but a buddy shot one at long range with his 7mm Remington. He had some mobility issues so I followed up for him. Was sneaking along the blood trail when I saw the bucks head just above some thick prairie grass. Aiming at the juncture of his head and the tallest grass I fired an 87 vmax offhand from about 40 yards. 4.5 year old whitetail buck with a very thick neck. Results were impressive. Very confident it will do what I want at further distances.

Did you snap any photos?

I was playing with TAC again today in my 6x45 with the 18” PBB Carbon barrel. I loaded 27 grains at .030, .040, .050, .060 off the lands. The two best groups and SD were at .030 and .050 off. Honestly I was was pretty amazed I got such good groups as I had an inconsistent 2-6 mph L to R breeze.

This was at 405 yards 5 shots .050 off the lands.

This was .030 off which is my normal loading. Still 1/2 MOA

Fantastic results!!!
Do you know you COAL? I was looking at the data from the “others” that we swiped. “Their” claim is 24.3gr of tac is at pressure for the 87. Clearly, that isn’t the case for your rifle. Just curious if I would have the case capacity to fit 27gr of anything in my case with a coal at/under 2.360. I won two pounds of tac. Just haven’t opened them yet. My goal is to find a powder match for the 95gr tmks.

I went to 26 grains of TAC with the 87. May try to creep carefully higher. I will say the 75 vmax is very accurate in my 7.5 twist Hawk Hill barrel using TAC. And I too would like to try TAC on some 95 grain VLD.

My OAL is 2.460 at .030 off the lands. I know the bullet is touching powder, but I wouldn’t call it compressed.

I can’t see how 24.3 would be max with the 87s and TAC. I say that because Hodgdon/Accurate data show that 2230 with the 87s can go to 24.4 and 2230 is a much faster powder.

Maybe it’s max at book length of 2.260. Who knows how they got those numbers. I’m excited seeing the numbers on your chrono though. My es/sd are 20 times yours with x-term. What was your barrel length again?

This was all done with my 18” PBB carbon barrel. I will say, those SD numbers are better than my 8208 loads, although it really doesn’t show in group sizes. The 8208 loads shoot great too.
I have another barrel that I use 2230 in with the 87s. It’s 16” and it very accurate with 2230 but at 2665fps and it runs about 20fps SD.
