Do you tip your Taxidermist?

Basically should you tip out your Taxi and what amount. Just got an e-mail that deer mount is ready and in less than 6 months time. In the past have only worked with local taxi and it has been like 18mo.

We do sometimes, usually if they have gone above and beyond and we want to show appreciation. Definetely not required, but it's a nice way to let them know when they did an especially awesome job and/or exceeded expectations. Like finishing something much faster than expected. Or constructing a custom form because they couldn't find one that did the mount justice. Or spent hours "quilting" your hide back together because you blew a hole in it, and now no one will be the wiser

I think it's like a lot of things. Not required or expected, but a nice gesture to show genuine appreciation when it's well deserved.

my taxidermist is so friggen slow anyways. he is typically happy i have money to pay him..i imagine he hates chasing folks for money. i volunteer 50% up front..that is my "tip"..timelyness.

Did commercial taxidermy for 30 years. never got a tip. but I did get a complete on time, or a short deadline bonus at times.

I have never tipped, but I have paid more than the advertised amount on several occassions in order to get things back quick. That being said, I have also paid much less than the advertised amount due to being such a loyal customer

No. In general, I don't tip owners, I tip servers or workers who aren't in charge of how much they make. Any taxidermist I've ever used was the owner of his own shop and sets his own prices. I expect him to take pride in his work and set those prices accordingly... Sometimes I've paid extra for certain details I requested, or less because I brought him a lot of work that year... But I always just pay whatever he quotes me at.

I tipped my local taxidermist a few times. 1st time I did he said that was the 1st tip he had ever gotten. he does phenomenal work, well worth a tip.

I don't, my taxidermist is already at the higher end of the price spectrum. My buddies think he's too expensive and go elsewhere but my buddies also have to admit that my mounts are absolutely gorgeous when I get them back. I've never had a complaint with any of his work while my buddies can't always say the same for some of the stuff they've had done elsewhere. In fact, I just got my speedgoat back last night from him and I love it.

Never have, but telling your friends about his good work and being a repeat customer could be considered a "tip"

I try to refer business to the guy I use as much as I can. He's a one man show but turns out some good work and is a fairly busy guy with little to no time for himself. He's got two of his own sheep from the past 5 years which he hasnt even had time to do because he turns out client work before all else. Never thought to tip him but thinking on it now, I'll start doing it. His work has been worth it in my book.
