Do you resize virgin brass?

Fairly new reloader here. (1 year)

All of my reloading so far has been on factory brass fired from my rifles. (300 rounds)

I only full length size with Hornady dies and only bump the shoulder 2-3 thou.

I recently finally purchased some new brass.

My question is should you resize virgin brass? I have inspected all and none have any dents or bent necks. I just planed on chamfer and debur and load. Don’t want to work the brass more than I have too.

Thanks for the help.

I do. Just as an insurance policy to make sure the neck is good for bullet seating. Your barely "working" the brass, occasionally it catches a neck that was slightly off. Mostly just slides right through.

Definitely don't have to generally speaking. I also load on a progressive, so its just easier for me to run it that way. Makes no time difference for me. I would probably not if i was running a single stage or turret.

I don't even resize virgin Nosler seconds, if the necks are beat up I just give them a kiss the the expander to make then round and load away.

Another question… will I see a noticeable difference in accuracy in new brass compared to brass that the shoulder is only getting bumped 2-3 thou at the shoulder?

That largely depends on the chamber and the brass.

I’ll shoot a match or hunt with good virgin brass in a good chamber

I have never sized virgin brass.

It the brass is high quality well packaged brass such as Peterson, no.

If it is bulk brass in a bag, yes.

One extra time through the resizing die is not really going to be noticeable in the usable life of a brass case.

Not a noticeable difference for hunting accuracy between virgin and fired in my experience. I doubt I can shoot the difference if there is one

I run all new brass over an appropriate size mandrel, chamfer and deburr the mouth, add primer/powder/bullet, and head to the range.

I would never just load virgin brass without setting neck tension. I would also ckeck shoulder position, my stw virgin brass grows .020", conversely my 7prc shoulders are .003-.004 between virgin and twice fired.

Run virgin brass over a mandrel 1-2 thou below bullet diameter. Put imperial wax on the mandrel and inside the necks.

Tumble in rice afterwards to remove the lube and give the interior neck surface a little more lubricity.

Done.

This is what I do as well. I always figured the virgin brass is sized the same as that brands factory ammo if offered. Alpha and Lapua I just chamfer and deburr
