Do you really need the Kuiu Hydration Bag Holder?

I have the Ultra, and I think I could use a water bladder with just the hook at the top of the bag.
Does anyone else see the need for a bag to hold a water bladder?

I have a Ultra 6000 bag and I just hang my Platypus by the hook. It was fine, but the KUIU bladder bag would give it a little protection I guess? Other than that I don't see how it would make any difference.

I've only done this for one 3 day trip and just training hikes so take that for what its worth.

I just use the hook too with no issues so far, 20ish days afield with it.

I found the hydration bag to actually be a pain in the ass when you wanted to get your bladder out to refill. So I prefer just the hook. Plus it wont fit a wide bladder like a 3L Source low pro

Picked up a MSR bladder and these little caribeaners to hang em from the tabs.

I dig that idea. I have always just hung my CamelBak from the hook on my 6000 bag with no issues. I ended up buying the bag holder when Kuiu was having a sale. I was looking for a little protection and thought it might work better to hang 6 lbs of water from the top of the frame instead of the bag. But I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

It's the 3L MSR Hydromedary. It fits great in my 3k bag.

I just use the two horizontal internal straps to hold my 3L bladder. The top strap goes under the bladder lid and holds it nicely, the bottom strap ends up about 1/4 up the bladder.

Also, I just picked up a new osprey bladder to replace my camelbak and it is considerably better, IMO. It's, definitely sturdier and better built, if a little heavier. The bite valve also seems better for drinking, though it was tricky squeezing water into my jetboil. The magnetic chest strap clip could go away.
