Do you leave extra gear at the trail head?

Food, fuel and arrows. That's about it. Elk season I plan for one pack out mid season to restock

Gobbler I think it is a great you keep extra everything at the trailhead. No reason to stop like the guys say if you have 2 why the hell not have the spare at the truck. Remember your the eldest in the group so all us kids depend on it!!!

That's why my spare gear is stored in a big steel job box locked to my truck and locked with two big padlocks in their recessed lock pockets.

Regards,
Scott

Locks are nice for peace of mind, but they only keep honest people out. Anymore there are cordless die grinders and small torches that make quick work out of any locks.

As far as theft goes, a trail cam locked to a tree goes a long way toward keeping honest people honest. Same for camp.
Just a tip.

I usually leave a spare water filter, some extra food, arrows and broadheads at the truck.

I also leave the wyoming saw in the truck. If I get something down I take it back with me on the last meat-hauling trip for the skullplate.

I have a complete camp in the back of my truck that I can hike into at any time. Sometimes the animal ends up being just as close to the truck and it's nice to get the awkward stuff like rifle, head, spotting scope, etc. to the truck first. Then I can focus on hauling mostly meat the following day. This works especially well with solo Elk hunting where multiple trips are going to be mandatory.

I always keep extra stuff in the truck. At a minimum its food for the second half of the season and spare bow. Usually though its a full camp and a full tub of extra clothing. A trip home for something takes a day and a half with pack out and drive times, I can usually hunt the morning and haul ass out to the truck if needed during mid day and still hunt that evening.
