Do we have a favorite mace for urban settings?

Mace, OC, or whatever does work well. But the problem is it also works on whomever is spraying it.

When I was a cop, each time it got used, the stuff swirled around and always got me.

So it works well. She just needs to understand a few precautions and also practice with it from time to time, just like a firearm.

Just to be fair, medieval weapons aside. If carrying pepper spray or oc makes her comfortable. Cool, know that she’s going to be exposed as well and that can work against her. I’ve been oc, cs, tased, deep freezed, it all sucks but can be fought through and has unintended consequences. A gun is my preferred option if I’m in a situation. I prefer not to be in one period, but sometimes it can’t be helped.

Hey, I will actually answer your question. Sabre has been the go to for many years, and I have heard good things about POM industries lately. As a guy with a wife and daughters, there are times they can't run, carry a firearm, fight at a BJJ black belt level. This is their hand is better than nothing.

I think there is a new brand out.
It's called "Belgian Malinois."

In all seriousness, I've seen mace and pepper spray both work and not work including some who were sprayed so much, it was like tackling a greased pig.
I think if she trained on any of the bear sprays, she would most likely be somewhat comfortable.

Been sprayed and tazed several times. A detained individual will fight through it.

Nothing beats hand to hand combat and a gun if things get bad enough. Just my 2 cents 🤙
At 19 (in a bar...) I watched a handcuffed guy try to fight 2 cops that were spraying him with mace.

I don't carry, but if I was going to carry mace, I'd probably carry a 9mm.

I am giggling through the whole thread. In my mind "Mace" is soooo 1980 and super G aye Y.

It's OC

Bear Spray is really "illegal" to deploy on a human? Never knew. Never heard of anyone using Bear Spray vs LEOs in recent years being prosecuted.

Also....if someone is a big enough POS to piss w your old lady to the point she deploys Bear Spray.....I'll wager a pretty fair chunk of my own funds....they're not going to contact LE and make a report.

I do agree with many others....you're gonna eat some spray in the deployment. Would be better to know what it feels like. It's why we all have to eat it before we can use it.

Unlike most others...my opinion is that an asshole is going to be strongly dissuaded from being a bigger asshole after eating a can of bear spray. Easier targets elsewhere. And they will be F'd up enough to level the playing field. Easier to evade or retreat.

Think it's a great idea for Dogs and Dickheads. Shake vigorously and apply a very liberal coating. Don't discard canister. And go home.

Thanks - I'll check that out.

I see a lot about POM with the influencer/youtube crowd, not sure about the actual product.

Funny you say that, my PD buddy recently was telling me about a crackhead that choked their Belgian unconscious. I had a hard time believing it but I have actually tangled with a dog before and they certainly can be handled without weapons.

I will 2nd this, and be more specific, Sabre Red, crossfire. Crossfire means the can can spray from any angle. including upside down which a lot of the older units could not do. Red means it "marks" your assailant (aka paints them red for identification)

Yes there is a certain percentage of the population that pepper spray will not effect, but it is very small and yes certain individuals can "fight through it",(even if they cant see lol) its been my experience that At the very least it could by you the couple of seconds of surprise that your wife would need to escape, she isn't gonna spray someone and continue to fight and subdue them etc. like the cops would need to. Spray and run.
