On a serious note, Fox Labs or SABRE would be my choice. Having been sprayed, don't count on it to stop a determined attacker. Spraying someone is assault, so still have to have decorum.

Nothing beats hand to hand combat and a gun if things get bad enough. Just my 2 cents

I’ve been sprayed for work both on purpose in training and incidentally. If you spray someone you are going to eat some also. There is no amount of spray that will stop someone crazy or high. Instead of relying on spray I would jog the other way 99% of the time. The other 1% I want a gun.

Something is better than nothing. But mind the wind. She will undoubtedly get some residual spray. If she's packing kids around too that could be quite the rodeo with a attacker, wife and possibly children.

Spray and create distance quick would be best course of action.

Works great on dogs though. I've had to do it a couple times. They don't like it

After being married 52 years, my advice would be to seek marital advice and not spray her with anything like that. I know they can get on your nerves every now and then. Could end up with domestic violence charges, not good. Reminds me of an old saying "Can't live with them, can't live with them". Good Luck !!

Not really. It is a tool. Could be better than nothing, could be worse. It depends on her mindset.

False confidence can lead to trouble, but for low odds events it can also let one function in life. If it gives confidence to walk to her car, great. If it gives confidence to push the boundaries and make that walk to the car later at night than it needed to be or through a worse area, not great.

If all it does is make you feel better, then might be a good thing.

In the end, it depends.

Of course, the majority of women are hurt by people they know. It is similar to how more people are hurt driving then by bears in Alaska, but hearing of a lady a few miles away that got mauled walking out to go for a jog has me reconsidering what I carry while running in salmon season. Our brains prefer to focus on the rare events, rather than the more likely and equally as dangerous events. Alternatively, perhaps it is because my brain thinks I already do everything reasonable to protect myself driving and so it is asking am I being reasonable with what I carry?

I’ve purchased but never used the POM. As others have said, it’s a tool and not mutually exclusive to others. I carry one in some situations/places.

It's good to have as an option, along with other tools, if possible. Foam seems to be better than liquid, pepper over mace. But it does require actual training - both in the fundamentals of deployment, but also in judgement of when it's the best tool. As others have said, wind is a major issue, and a false sense of confidence can cause more problems than it solves. At the same time though, the legit danger of someone hopped up on some drug fighting through it also does not discount its usefulness below that threshold. And some threats just don't need a lethal response.

Might be a good start, but I also don't know where else you could go to get formal training.

But especially if you can also think through and even role-play some of the more likely scenarios she might encounter in day-to-day life, it might be a solid start. Also, most law enforcement agencies using sprays include some form of actually being on the receiving end of being sprayed as a standard part of training, because of the likelihood of catching some of it in real-world use, especially indoors or spraying a bit into the wind, or just in body-contact during an arrest. That way you have some idea of what it is like, and won't be caught entirely off-guard in using it in an actual encounter, and will think through its use better. So, some training cans that involve a little wind (and her clearly knowing some of it will come back, in advance), might not be a bad idea. But that's a judgement call with the personality of your wife.
