Do I need pants warmer than Attacks?

I got a pair of regular DeHavilland pants and I love the fabric (it feels very durable, pretty water resistant) and the large hip zips, but I'm not sure if I like how they fit. I'll probably try another size, but if they don't fit right, I might have to find something else, which got me wondering if I'd even need anything warmer?

I wear Attacks the majority of the season once it gets too cool for early season pants, and with a base layer, I don't know if I need anything warmer? The DeHavillands just feel like a more burly late-season pant without being too hot while hiking.

Do you guys have pants that are warmer than Kuiu Attack (or FL Corrugate Foundry, Sitka Mountain, SG DeHavilland Lites)? When/what are you wearing them?

I love how Kuiu pants fit, but I'm afraid their guide pants or axis hybrid pants will be too warm with that fleece backing. I wore a pair of timberlines for years, but the lack of hip zips drives me nuts.

Most of the time I’d say no. Especially with zip off base layers to help boost insulation. They pants that are burlier with some heavier wear areas are nice IF they can vent, but every pair I’ve had I’ve overheated in unless it’s < 20F out.

I handled a pair of the FL 308s (insulated and non) today and was impressed honestly. I think they try and get a little too busy with the pockets and feathers sometimes though.

My answer is mid-weight: yes, plus base layers, can get you deep in the season (for me in MT) - add a hard shell and puffy pants to the mix and it helps that case to not where lined softshell or heavier types.

I wear attacks and guides. When the highs are in the 30's and lower i wear the guides. The guides have vents like the attacks and can dump heat fast when it's in cold out.

I’ve got the axis and guides. Start wearing them once the highs are in the 30s. Can be a little warm but I like both pants a lot. I like the fleece lining and not having to wear long underwear

Whats the outer fabric like on the Guides? Similar to the attacks, or a tougher/burlier fabric? I see Attacks are polyester and the Guides are nylon.

I like the waterproof panels on the axis, but reviews say the guides vent better because the hip zips are bigger?

I have a pair of the axis hybrid, I've only wore them on the ski trip so far. They're very warm. I bought them used and really need to go up a size. Can't say if they'd be too warm, but I would only wear them if it were wet/snowing and the high was 40s or less.

In the Southwest, I don't use any pant warmer than the Attacks for hunting as they will just get too hot while hiking. If its cold, I wear zip off baselayers which I can vent or remove as needed and add puffy pants for sitting still. Even for skiing, I mostly only wear OR Cirque pants, which despite some reinforced cuffs, aren't any thicker, may in fact be thinner then the Attacks. The Attacks are often too hot for early season for me. I consider them my "cold weather" hunting pants.

I cycle through Kuiu pants throughout the season. Kutana 50 degrees+, attack 50-20, axis hybrid 20 and below. If there is significant weather (wind/snow), I might use the axis above 30. All in all, probably average 7 days a season in them. All these ranges include a lot of hiking and moving. Deer stand hunters or glassing intensive hunts, I could see getting a little more use out of them.

I rotate through 3 pairs too depending on conditions.

Not unless I'm still hunting in really cold temps. I use attacks with baselayer down to around 20 degrees.

My 3 pants for active hunting are kuiu katana, attack, and Sitka timberline.

Paired with the kuiu zip off merino bottoms, I can’t see myself actively hunting in any scenario that those pants don’t cover.

I had a pair of dehavilands a few years ago, and I liked them but goodness they were loud. I couldn’t effectively bow hunt in them.

If I had to have one active pant forever, it would be the kutana. The timberline is a better cold weather pant, but the kutana and the attack really aren’t all that different.

I am using the Sitka mt pants more unless it’s just too hot.

Kutanas early season, Attacks mid to late. I have the Talus hybrid for if its really cold and snowing, but they only get a few days use a year if any. I run a light synthetic base and zip off merino base under my attacks as needed. Easy to regulate heat that way.
