Do Big Box Trad Setups Work?

I'm a compound hunter and don't have experience with recurves. However, I'd like to buy a half dozen or so ready-to-hunt recurve setups with arrows for a trip I'm planning in May and then will be leaving the setups with the hunters to keep using after I'm gone. The setups will be used to hunt hogs.

I'm super skeptical to get these, as I wouldn't expect a compound setup from Wal Mart to last more than a couple shots. I'm hoping to find something relatively durable and reliable without breaking the bank.

Alternatively, I found these ready to shoot kits from Southwest Archery that seem higher quality. However, at $300 each, I'd only be able to get a couple for the same price as the Wal Mart ones. https://www.southwestarcheryusa.com/collections/ready-2-shoot-packages

Would either of these options work for rudimentary setups that could reliably harvest wild boars? If so, is there any minimum draw weight you'd recommend?

Or, is there another direction you'd recommend?

I would buy a bunch of the black hunters and call it good. That way the limbs are interchangeable as well.

Brand new trad shooters shouldn’t be shooting more then 30-35s to start and learn form, I wouldn’t let them hunt either for a year or so till they are used to shooting a stick and know proper form.

I would say 45-50lb is fine for hogs if the shooters know what they are doing, wouldn’t recommend a light weight set up for them though.

Not sure what your intending. You are going to buy some random recurves for some guys that have never used one, including yourself, and then go out and hunt hogs with them? Am I understanding correctly? If so, that seems like a terrible and irresponsible thing to do. It takes a lot more time to become efficient and effective with a trad bow and not providing that time and training is just going to look bad on the sport! Hopefully I misunderstood what your plan was and I apologize if that's the case!

100% on the Black Hunters. Outstanding bow for the money. Tons of excellent reviews and kills online.

They have ton of different options like longbow or recurve, colors and weights.

Can’t go wrong, in my opinion.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I could see why you would think that. These guys are all very experienced with trad equipment, unlike myself. However, their bows are very light weight and not super efficient at harvesting hogs. I'm looking to get them gear that is better suited for hogs. They are unable to procure them for themselves.

Sounds like a kind of odd endeavor, but if that’s something you’re pursuing then I like the Black Hunter bows too. I’d check and see what the regs are in the state you’re going to as well. I know here at least, you have to be able to pull a minimum draw weight in order to hunt with a bow.
