The lottery is coming fast for Iowa May 3rd to June 1st. I've lived in South Central for 15 years now and know quite a few landowners I eat breakfast with a bunch of them every morning at the diner - let me know if you have enough points to draw and maybe I can help out a fellow hunter.

To draw with a bow this year in Iowa and be guaranteed a tag you'll need to be sitting on 6 points going into the lottery in my area.

To draw with a gun this year in Iowa and be guaranteed a tag you'll need to be sitting on 2 points going into the lottery in my area.

Don't believe anyone who says there's a booner behind every tree in Iowa it's just not that way anymore - maybe it was 20 years ago and there are area's that landowners have combined their resources and protect their co-op's to get 170's and better (Good luck getting close to any of those area's) but Iowa is definitely a go to destination for 140-160 class bucks and there seems like every year there's one or two giants around (170 & up) but you are more likely to run into a 150 first lol.

I can't believe it takes 6 years to draw a bow tag now but if you're a few years out, then I suggest you
make a plan to start about 3 years out so at 3 points come to Iowa start scouting and talking to people
if you are lucky enough to find a place and if they will let you or if your hunting state ground then you have the next two years to spring scout and figure out where you're going to hang stands etc. - the biggest problem I see non-resident's make is waiting till the year they pull their tag to figure this all out - a plane ticket and a rental car / motel for a couple days is 500.00 so make that investment a couple years in a row and you'll be way ahead of the game.
