I had a friend sew up a DIY gun bearer last winter out of some old tree stand harness material I had on hand. It works fairly well, but the top strap likes to rotate on me and gets a little annoying in the brush/dead fall.
It seems most people like the Slick sling top strap. I am going to try and replicate something similar. I’m looking for ideas on what to use as the fastening “stud” and how to secure it to my shoulder strap. I’ll post links to the material I’m looking at but would like to hear some other ideas, especially for mounting it to the pack.

Have you looked at the Kifaru one and how it's made? not sure a stud is the route I would go. I haven't made my own but I have to imagine there is a bit of a simpler solution

I have one of the stone glacier setups, but I use it on a mystery ranch pack and set up more like the gunbearer where it attaches in front of my shoulder strap. I just pass the strap underneath the webbing there and that's it, no other attachment really seems to be needed. I also prefer the rifle upside down, scope facing the ground, which also keeps the bolt away from my right arm. Seems to stay upright at a better angle that way too.

Not sure if that's exactly what you're asking, I could see about getting some pics later.

The kifaru one is what I modeled it after. I like the function of it minus my sloppy top strap, so thats what I’m looking to improve. Maybe Velcro around the shoulder strap would keep it situated better.
Any pics would be appreciated if it’s not too much hassle. I’m just looking for ideas before I start testing stuff. It’ll be going on my pop up 28, if that matters.

I just did this same exact thing. I used these ball studs that have a 10mm head and they were perfect for the titan strap I used. I simply took a soldering iron and put a small hole in the external webbing that runs vertically the entire length of the shoulder pad. It appears the pop up 28 also has the vertical webbing. Drilled a hole in a dime to use as a washer, and tightened down with thread locker. Works great. I can post a picture later if needed as I don't currently have one.

Yeah, I'd love to see a photo of that.

Here's my super simple solution. Uses the cheek piece adjuster knob to help hold onto the lower strap. Upper hook is easily enough to manage with the pack on. Could be made without sewing, but I stitched the lower trap and one side of the upper.

Rifle seems solid. I've shook the pack a bunch and jumped and she doesn't move.
