Im about to build or attempt to? a folding
stock from a Boyds QUEST stock by keeping the vertical grip and cutting the rear stock off Behind the tang. I plan to attach a picitinny mount folding hinge then attach my own aircraft aluminum stock similar to the one on my
35 whelen AI pack rifle.
Both ends of rod would go up to the locking hinge. As much as id like to spend 800.- 1500 on a folding chassis system "NOT". Not sure if this has been done before if anyone has any recomendations please chim in. The stock just got ordered today and other parts are a week or two out. The action is a savage axis ll with a benchmark #5 contour 24" barrel in
280 AI, Scope Arken EPL4 4-16×44 ffp.

Sounds cool. following.
An update on a few components that arrived I wanted to checkout the quality of and so far quality seems good on these 2 folding stocks they are not $300. Parts actually they are airsoft AR style folders designed to go onto a pic rail adapter the L shaped one is 13/16" wide and very stiff but lighter in weight 10.6 oz with spring loaded folding hinge lock open or closed $24.99 the other stock with cheek riser and adjustable butt ($50.) is 11/16" wide and has a very heavy duty hinge with a push button lock in or lock out VERY SOLID but heavy at #1.06 oz. Both butts will require a pad added like what I have on my 35 whelen AI it is 1/8" plastic, 3/32" aluminum and 2 layers of dollar store flip flop this handles recoil from 225gr SGK at 2500fps so no worries at all. The only mistery now is how much material is on boyds stock above grip where the pic rail needs to be mounted hopefully within a week or so that question will be answered.

The heavy duty hinge is a separate componant but would be my first choice considering the recoil of a 280AI

That sounds cool where will you place the hinge. I saw something like that on what appeared to be a commercial stock very similar to yours. Most hunting trips I take are off trail in some pretty rough country where I need both hands and arms free in that case I strap my 308ai encore pistol on the side of my pack same with my short 35 whelen or the folding rifle in the works now.

I never knew what a 35 whelen was till a friend gave me a custom 35 whelen AI Encore pistol its my favorite at 16.25" its compact for sure.
