Figured I would post another build I did this spring while I had some free time. Last fall I finally got some buddies to go to the pheasant farm for a day of shooting. We all had a blast and while I wont be in the puppy market anytime soon for my own bird dog, I did find out that my old Walmart blaze orange hunting vest wasn't going to cut it, and if we make the annual habit of hitting the game bird farm, I would need something a little more user friendly.
So I set out to make a strap vest that I can wear all day chasing after birds. In keeping with other builds, I try to repurpose material and fasteners to keep the costs down and my noodle working harder than it needs to. Only the blaze orange was bought specifically for this build, everything else is either left over from other projects, or repurposed off of older projects that have been previously upgraded
It has a bird bag in the back with a vinyl liner to keep everything clean and a couple front pouches for a box of shells and whatever else a guy needs on shorter hikes in the field. As I don't plan on chasing wild birds all over the grasslands, I configured it for shorter hikes no more than a mile from the truck at any given time. That's the main reason I didn't put lids or buckles on the front pouches.
3" webbing makes up the belt, and an assortment of other webbings make up the straps and harness. This one took about 3 days to get dialed in. Could I have gotten away with one of those el-cheepo strap vests off of amazon? most likely, but where is the fun in that?
