I am new to the forum been researching the Hunt District 202 in Montana for a backpacking Mule deer hunt this season as I drew a buck tag. I was curious if anyone had any experience in this area? I have been told to focus on the drainages West and Southwest of Superior. Most of my prior hunting in Montana for Mule deer has been in the Southeast corner of the state so this will be new country to me. I am willing to backpack in a few miles if that is what it takes. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone has hunted it or know someone who has please let me know the real expectations and caliber of bucks in that district. I can hunt the early archery season as well as the late during the rut.

Haven't really spent a lot of time in there but I'd think you'd want to look south of Superior and east down to upper Fish Creek. Lots of cool high country but I don't think the deer densities are very high. Definitely going to be more than a few miles to get to the good stuff. I think typical bucks are 150-160 from what I've seen. There are a few 180+ bucks but they are few and far between. The guys that usually get them are locals who know that country up and down. Good luck and let us know how what you find out.
