Discovery or das?

Looking to buy my first recurve, torn between these two. Price difference for complete setups is about $250, is the extra money worth it?

I'd buy either Riser, buy a cheap pair of Galaxy limbs for training on, and then go with whichever name brand limbs in your target poundage you prefer.

I have the Samick Discovery riser and I love it, but I run Uukha limbs. Not knowledgeable enough to know the difference between the two, other than differences in riser length affecting sight picture etc.

DAS will hold it's resale value more. Probably a bit heavier and will feel more solid when shooting it. If you want lighter and less expensive the Discovery is the route though.

There are so many ILF risers out there now it just blows my mind. I remember well that if a guy wanted a short ILF hunting riser, they had to send an old Black Bear or similar compound handle to Bob Gordon to get it "Warfed." LOL That was even before David Sosa's first DAS.

You didn't ask, but I have the Gillo Ghost and although not the most attractive looking riser, I doubt I could find a better shooting one. That thing is just fantastic to shoot.

Relatively new Discovery-owner, here. I might be a bit late to the game, but here are my thoughts. In my opinion, you would be hard pushed to find riser with a better value for money than the Discovery. It's solid, no fuss, does what it is supposed to to. That being said, I wouldn't buy it again, but go after the DAS Dalaa. I'm just not too happy with a few details. First of all, the shelf is not properly arced, so you need to modify the shelf or use an elevated rest. Not a big deal, but you should be aware of that. The riser is cut past center, of course, but not terribly much, I find. With a springy rest or basically any other screw in - even a thicker stick-on - it could get difficult to get true center shot. Maybe it's just me - I'm a beginner - but that's the trouble I'm having with it. Since the plunger holes are not pre counter-sunk, either, I even had to drill one of them 1/8 in deep in order to get my Accutune flush. Additionally, above the shelf the riser isn't very thick, so you might have difficulty to tighten screw-on rests that are built with a more beefy riser in mind. Push Archerys Accutune, for instance, can only be tightened to the riser using a pretty substantial extra washer - at least 3/16 in. And that is definitely not to be blamed on the Accutune (shout-out to The Push - great rest!). Another thing to consider is that the riser comes with aluminium limb bolts. This might be standard, I don't know how it is with the DAS riser. I would expect the DAS risers limb bolts are made of stainless steel, though. Samick sells ss limb bolts as an extra for a really whopping premium, but as of now isn't even able to deliver. I asked my retailer about it and they told me, that they asked Samick four times when the steel limb bolts become available again and didn't even get an answer. I guess that tells you sth about the manufacturer....

As said before, I'm a bit torn. For the price - I only paid 200 USD - it is a fine riser. But although the DAS is way more expensive, I would go after the DAS, even if I was offered the Discovery at the price I got it for.

Just my 2 cents...

Ive went through a few metal risers. If I was to go back to metal it would 100% be a das.
I love that connection system. The das tribute was my favorite metal riser to date
