Difference between Preference and Bonus Point in Utah

What is the difference between Preference and Bonus Points in Utah.
FYI The deadline to enter the draw is today 6March by 11:00pm however if you just want a point and not enter the draw you have until 20March to apply for the point.

Preference points are only for general season deer. Bonus points are for all limited entry hunts and each bonus points gets you a random number. They start at the lowest number and award tags until no tags are left

I wasn't really sure either, but when in yesterday and applied for points on deer, elk, goat, sheep, and bison. Hopefully its an investment in my future.
