Diesel heater/power source

Yes you can run the HCalory (and the Vevor as well) in three modes.
1) You set the power level and it stays there regardless of temp
2) It will regulate the power level depending on the temp but it never shuts down, if the temp gets above the setpoint it throttles back the power to level 1 but it never completely shuts down.
3) Full thermostat mode where the unit shuts itself all the way down and kicks back on depending on temperature

Here is the Amazon description of the Hcalory I bought:

8KW Diesel Heater, 5L Toolbox Compact 2S Portable Diesel Air Heater 110V/12/24V All in One Fast Heating with App Control, Altitude Mode and no tick for RV Garage Camper 2025 Upgraded

Thank you, that helps me alot.

NuWay propane heaters are worth a look. Best solution I've found for a relatively light, simple, hot tent setup. If you have a larger tent, a thermoelectric fan on top of it will help circulate the air in the tent. No power source required. Add damper to the pipe to increase efficiency by about 25%.

By the time you add the stove, extra fuel, a power sources, and something to charge the power source, it turns into quite a pile of stuff. Not to mention diesel stinks and once it gets spilled and your stuff is contaminated, it will never be the same.

I do have some milwaukee batteries @Mountain_Life do you know how long the battery will last?

To calculate run time for a given appliance, runtime = (amp hours x battery volts) / Device load aka watts.

So, for a 200ah 12v battery running a device with a 20 watt load, you would get 120 hours of runtime. Or something like that... Maths isn't my forte.

How long did it run without charging, or did you charge it?
My 100 Ah I've only used a couple nights in a row, no charging. Not sure how drained it was.

The Jackery was down about 30%-35% after 10-12 hours of run time. I believe it was a 300 Ah but not my unit so I'm not totally sure. We recharged it in the truck every day because we could.

I've monitored my diesel heater power consumption and run it a fair number of full nights and as an average it uses about 25watts (uses over 100watts at startup, but that is a short duration). A 100AH LFP battery is about 1280 watt-hours, which means about 50hours of run time, and that run time more or less matches my experience.

If you run it full bore all the time the average power consumption may bump to 30-35watts but that is still over 40 hours of run time

I appreciate everyones help. I just ordered a diesel heater yesterday. I'm planning on doing a 12v 100ah LiFePO4 battery. Now i just gotta make up my mind if i want to buy some solar panels or buy a portable power station like jackery/bluetti. I never thought i would get so excited to use a little diesel heater.

What'd you get? The Jackery would be in place of the battery, either would pair well with solar power. We used the Jackery inside the tent to power lights and recharge everything and left the battery dedicated to the heater, either would also work as a backup if one system failed. Keep in mind the LiFeP04 won't charge if it's too cold so you may have to warm it up. That's why I just used my camper AGM.

I got an hcalory. I believe its the same one @Esetter77 has or similar. My plan for now is to get that 12v battery dedicated to the heater then have the jackery just for phones and lights kinda like you. Depending on the temperature, use the solar panels to charge during the day or the jackery if need be. I might have enough just with the battery alone but I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a backup plan. I just went to Costco today and saw they have a jackery with solar panels. The price didnt look to bad.Screenshot_20260305_154108_Chrome.jpg

Nice. I like the suitcase clips, looks easy to open up if need be.
I thought it was nice for the price and some of the features. I think for what i do it will be plenty. The hardest part of a diesel heater is figuring out which model you want, there's so many options. It doesn't help i haven't been around them either.

How far do you close the damper? I have this set up but haven’t used it yet. Was wondering about how far I can close the damper before issues happen

Buy the jackery first, then decide if you want a battery as well. The jackery is going to do everything you want (phones and lights) and will still have plenty of juice to run the heater all night long. Charge during day with panels if you need.

If that doesn’t cut it during an outing, then think about a battery, but I bet you won’t need one.

Do these things click all night long? I've seen them on YouTube and it seems like the click, click, click of the fuel pump would make me insane? I've also thought about using one for my Midwest deer box blind, and wonder how loud it would be?
