Did I buy the wrong scope

I wasn't suggesting that you couldn't kill big game with a .243. I just said it's on the lighter end of hunting cartridges and was interested in why he chose it. A lot of people might suggest you could kill a bear with a knife...doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Yea I know. I’m saying the data suggest that not only is it sufficient to kill a bear, it is also not marginal in the least.

I can’t speak for OP. Was just trying to be helpful because I assumed you hadn’t seen the data/discussions I’m referring to. It’s quite common around here to use 6mm for any and all hunting.

I would only switch because the Trijicon is SFP/MOA, with the SFP being the main reason.

But I'm not a whitetail hunter. It really depends on your desire/need to hold for wind and or elevation, and the ranges you'll be hunting at.

Trijicon retails $735. SWFA retails $600. I personally like the constellation of features on the Swfa more. FFP, mil based, strong reticle design.

I also see the 3-9 is currently listed as in stock on their website.

If you’re asking what I personally would do, I would return the trij, save $135, and buy the Swfa. Starting off on a mil based ffp system will simplify your learning curve.

But I also wouldn’t think it’s the end of the world if you decided to just keep the trij and move on with your life. Practice with your system is the important part of the equation. And you can still get a lot of practice without having a 1000 yd range.

Street price on a new 3-12 ascent/huron is $450 - $500 depending on which state you're buying it from

Yesterday, I bought the very similar Huron in the exact same magnification range. You can probably guess my recommendation ;-). It is my second Huron.

Run it. Then you can decide what you like and don't like about it, and use that to better make a decision.

I payed $510 for the Trijicon shipped from EuroOptic. Will lose $30 for restock and return shipping. But they are very close in price and the swfa is now in stock hence my predicament.

If you can swing it, buy the SWFA and get it sent to you while you still have the Trijicon in hand. Compare them. Look at them in both bright light and dusk. See what scope you like the best. Sell the scope you don't like in the Classifieds. You might lose a little money but you will know you have the right scope for you.

Keep it and shoot it. Shoot 1,000 rounds this year and get some skills under your belt. Let your experience then drive your final scope purchase.

If it were me id get the swfa you won't regret it and if you do you can easily resell it. Its a easy button 1 and done scope

FFP is gonna get the nod from western folks that shoot at distance. (Im an FFP guy too)

But under say 300 yards, mainly whitetail context, SFP is perfectly fine. And may even be an advantage on low power where FFP reticles get pretty small.

I have no experience with either. But from what ive read id think the intangible qualities of the trijicon are probably better then the swfa.
