I am wanting to take my family, Wife and 5 year old boy, on a trip that the kid will remember for life and inspire him to be an outdoorsman. I would like to do a trip where it would be decent accommadations in the middle of nowhere in which at night they could have good hot food and a decent place to sleep, be it in a tent or cabin. My wife is awesome and is a competetive crossfitter so she can carry her own load, she just does not like cold, the kid will follow her lead. She can shoot guns well and is a decent archer, she has held one human at gun point so she can take care of herself. It would be awesome if she could take an animal but not a deal breaker.

In short I am looking for a big game hunt with any weapon, with decent accomadations in a senic area, Tags not needed, Budget 20k, in North America

Do you want an outfitter then? You don't care which species? Is trophy class important to you? More specifics will help get better answers for you.

I took my wife, 8 year daughter and 5 year old son on an antelope hunt this year and it went really well. With a 5 year old I think antelope is a great way to go. My tag was in the Cody area, which was great, and then when headed to Yellowstone, Teton and Jackson to make a great vacation that will remember. That particular tag took some points but I'm sure there are plenty of ranch hunts that you can get.

For my kids, 5 year old especially, a full on deer or elk hunt would be too much. I'm real careful with the kids as far as getting into long days in the field. It will also be great way for your wife to get her first animal.

I would recommend antelope just like Takem, in WY you can draw with very low points you can stay in hotels near restaurants and still have a great hunt. I hunted near Newcastle WY with my 10, 6, and 3 year old this year. We got an antelope, went to Mount Rushmore and ended the trip by driving into Yellowstone. Do some research about where you can draw with your point total, I used toprut which is free to find out pref points needed for each unit, public land %, and harvest rates. It was an amazing trip and I would highly recommend this approach for your family.

Maui. Hunt axis deer and do some fishing. Obviously not the middle of no where but it’s a blast over there. Perfect for a family trip.

i'm gonna PM you my answer. i dont want to dilute my own chances with a mad rush. :) (it is a draw - and i would be cool with your family winning over me)

With that budget you have a ton of options, Alberta moose, Alberta spot and stalk Muleys, Alberta Spring Bears in tree stands over bait would be a fun one for a young kid. There are quite a few elk options out there that would fit the bill.

Antelope would be a good option for seeing lots of game and getting opportunities and you could probably do a spring bear trip and an antelope trip for your budget...
