How many of you have use this? How is the reliability of it, especially in heavy cover or canopy?? And have any of you have use this in the PAC NW?? As always thanks--Tim
I never had any problems with mine, but I haven't used it very much either and I have not seen anyone reporting difficulties in using it in the field.
I do know that the InReach uses the Iridium network, which the military uses and it is much more reliable than the GlobalStar network, which SPOT uses.
However I did read that GlobalStar is supposedly fixing most of their problems this summer as they put a few new satellites in orbit last year and will be bringing them online. I expect you will see an increase in price with services associated with the GlobalStar system, so the SPOT will lose it's advantage of being cheaper.
I have the Inreach smart phone, used it last year in the Alaska range and on kodiak. Never under heavy canopy cover, but did have heavy cloud cover and I never had a problem with it. It worked great.
