Weight savings. Is there any?

The water we have available is what we can pack in.

So are we better off taking in hydrated meals vs dehydrated?

It's going to be fairly close. The general suggestion for rehydrating a meal is to add about the same amount of water you removed to get a decent consistency. If you're really weight-conscience, you could focus on going with a stoveless eating plan (meals that don't require rehydration and aren't 'hydrated'- think bars, jerky, dried fruits, nuts, etc.).

This kind of thing is so hard. My thinking has been, either I'm fit enough to go in and out every day, able to stock water ahead of time, or just go in for one or two nights and stay hydrated. I'm not willing to risk dehydration in the backcountry. But there are also times I've used less than ideal sources with extra filtering. Stay safe!
