I'm about to head out to pick my dad up for an out of state deer hunt. The drive is about 18 hours so we'll take a couple days getting there.

It'll be an area we've never hunted before so we will be learning it as we go. I'll do my best to update this thread regularly so follow along.

In the meantime: Last weekend I was out with my best friend and his 8 year old son for deer camp in Washington. The goal was to get Luke a chance at his first buck.

Opening morning, we split up in the dark and headed to glass different areas. At daylight, I spotted seven bucks so I called my buddy and told him to head my way. It took us a couple of tries to stalk within shooting distance and get Luke set up. Eventually we were within 296 yards of the bedded bucks and Luke was able to make a great shot and kill his first buck.

The only other legal buck in the group stood still long enough after Luke's buck was down that I decided to fill the freezer with this young buck. We had a great time and made some awesome memories.

Looking forward to following along on your hunt Justin.

I'm guessing it'll be muddy with the crazy amounts of rains falling across the West so plan on chains if you got them.

We got to the cabin we rented at about 11 am this morning and dropped off all our gear.

Then we headed into the hills to start scouting and figuring things out. No bucks today, but we saw quite a few does and checked out a lot of potential areas.

There are a couple of spots that looked good to us, and we will decide in the morning where we want to be at daylight.

We are having a good time so far. We glassed up 40-50 deer this morning but only a spike buck and one buck that looked decent. He was about 1600 yards away and wasn't in the open for long so I didn't get a good look at him.

Tons and tons of hunting pressure and it seems like every buck that breaks cover is shot at so it's going to be a challenge but we're here for the fun and excited to see what we can find.

We've been glassing our butt off but still haven't seen much of anything for bucks.

We saw over 40 deer last night and 56 this morning. Only one small 2x2.

The weather has been really nice so far. Not sure if that's helping or hurting though.
