Dedicated NRL Hunter Forum?

Does anyone here have a NRL membership? The only benefit I could see is being able to register for events before the general public. (Feel free to add other benefits that i've overlooked) Seeing that the February Alabama match filled up in three hours, it might be worth getting one if a guy was wanting to shoot a couple matches this year.
That, and with the membership you can qualify to shoot the finale. Points towards qualifying don't count without it.

Why though? What is wrong with chassis? Plenty of people hunt with them now and the ones guys are using in light competition are as light or lighter than most stocks.
Nothing, I have a HNT26 on backorder (lefty probs) but the guy I was responding to seemed to be hinting at a "simpler" class, hence my suggestion.

It’s still a long range shooting comp. I have been to a few “hunter” style matches ( some for charity and some for fun) lots of “regular” guys with “regular”hunting rifles. Guess what? The majority don’t hit shit and end up super frustrated. Hopefully it’s actually a wake up call to them that their skill level mixed with their gear equals about a 200 yard max effective range. I think the NRL hunter series is great as is. I would love to see a magnum class with a max fps of 3200 but other than that shoot skills or find a hunter games match. They don’t need to pander to everyone, it’s supposed to be competitive and you should need to shoot excellent over a couple days to win. Most quickly find out that requires gear that can perform at that level. Judging by how quickly matches are selling out, people are just happy with the current format

What about bipods other than a triple pull ? Ryr-6 is what I have currently works great. Just looking at options

Very good points.

I suppose that is why there is a skills class. A guy could do a skill shoot a couple times with a factory rifle and a basic scope like the 6x SWFA and then decide later if it is something to spend a lot more time and money on.

I do think it would be fun to try the skills category with a simpler rifle and using the field techniques that the Shoot2Hunt guys like to practice. Basically taking more time constrained shots and using only packs and trekking poles.

I tied for 9th in OH in bartlesville. No tripod. Bipod and a pack as my supports. Ive used trekking poles as rears a few times this year and generally it's too slow.

I soon got a tripod tho.

And the skills ive learned this year directly applied to the 3 animals ive shot so far.

If im hunting with a long range capable weapon, then im on a glassing knob and have a tripod, it's pretty practical to actually shoot bipod front tripod rear in a hunting scenario.

I would be very interested in hearing feedback from anyone who has shot a match with a SWFA fixed 6 or 3-9 or similar.

I shot my first match last year with everything I could cobble together from what I had: Bergara B14 HMR, Viper PST II 5-25, sirui 4-piece tripod and va5 head, Harris bipod, schmedium bag, handheld range finder. It was a disaster, but not really because of the gear or rifle (scope on the other hand . . . ). My work flow on the clock was . . . problematic.

I'm thinking of trying a match this year with an 18" Bergara in a Stocky's VG Hunter (hunter DBM bottom metal so I can run AICS mags). I'll still put the Harris on it and take the tripod. Last year the tripod mostly got used for glassing, though I did shoot off of it a few times. Honestly, I can't do much worse than I did last year. (ETA: so long as my scope doesn't die on a rock in the middle of the first day again, I should do better. It's a low bar). Rifle is currently wearing a SWFA 3-9. I'm thinking of using that and just seeing what happens. I don't think I zoomed in over 12 except maybe once last year. If I replace the scope, I'll be looking at the RS1.2 or 3-18 tenmile.

I carry everything hunting that I do to a match with the exception of a schmedium heavy fill game changer and a tvc 34 instead of an inverted 2 section for matches. I have confidence I can build a rock solid position in just about any scenario after a couple seasons of nrl hunter matches. They absolutely help you become a better rifleman. Get out there and have fun. Everyone is super cool. Love these events
