Well, I already have a .308 that I can shoot...so that is what I'd pick. I don't have a lot of mileage in other calibers though.

I'm going to stick with the old quote "ride what ya brung, and hope ya brung enough".

Mines a Browning 25-06. Why? because this thing flat out shoots well and nothing has walked away. Shooting around 3400fps with my current 100gr TSX load.

Been shooting a wby Stainless Vanguard .270 win with Hornady SST reloads. Just added a .270 win. Tika in 140 Accubonds for a lighter spike camp option. Still like the 7mm-08 BLR for close range hunting with corelokt psp's. Added a .300 wby Carbonmark to the mix with 180 accubonds for elk but will be packing the .270 win as my go to cal for mule deer.

Like seeing the love for quarter bores here... my main hunting rifle for deer/pronghorn for past decade has been a 25-06 Savage with a Leupold 4-12x40. Oh yes, the scope even has BDC and is MOA. Whacked a dozen critters or so with it - the 117 SSTs are killers and tip over animals easily. The flat trajectory is nice.

Very unfashionable and hopefully I'm not kicked off Rokslide since Leupold, Savage, and MOA all suck. Same with OTC rifles and factory ammo 😂. Don't tell anyone, but I even wore $20 "base layers" for some of this action and my pack was 9 lbs empty.

Lots of good options on here. I like the method of use what you have, I use a .270 remington 700 i got for Christmas when i was 12 and under 600 yards it seems to do just as well as alot of custom builds out there

6.5GAP4S (SAUM) with 139 scenar or 130 VLD for me

but......

I might take the 6.5 creed with Berger 156 EOL ammo this year.

I always used 270 but if I was getting something today, I'd probably take a 6.5 creed and not worry about it .

.270 win with a 24" barrel loaded with 140 accubonds above a nice column of RL26, 3100 fps, flat and hard hitting. And if it happens to be elk season at the same time it'll do the job just fine.
