What does SG’s De Havilland jacket compare most closely to with respect to thickness/weight from other brands such as Sitka and Kuiu?

My virtual impression is it compares to the Jetstream but without the hardcore wind laminate. I was very close to buying the Jetstream but ended up ordering the De Havilland to try out. Mine arrives tomorrow.

I don't think it's as versatile as the Jetstream. It's not as wind resistant nor as water repellent. The DeHaviland is somewhere between the Arcteryx Gamma LT and Gamma MX. I have a Gamma LT, and it doesn't go on hunts with me when I want to take a softshell, the Jetstream does.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right. I still may pick up a Jetstream myself. I hear so many positives on it. I wear a Patagonia R1 which is amazing but the wind cuts through it. I'm hoping the De Havilland will help stop the wind a bit with active hiking, and then throw the Puffy on when I stop and start to cool down.

One thing that ended up swaying me was being able to get solid colors instead of camo. I love the subalpine and open country, but if I pick up a Jetstream, I want to wear it when I'm not hunting as well. They just never have the solids in stock!

I was told Jetstream solids wouldn’t be available until August or September.

My Jetsteam is black. Hasn't hampered me in the field in any way. I wish they released solids in their tall sizes. I'd be an LT, but have to wear an XL.

If you're looking for solids colors. Unless you're constantly busting brush, a windshirt over a breathable fleece is way more versatile for the same weight.

I ordered the De Havilland and Grumman and they both just arrived. I am super excited about both. To speak to the De Havilland without any real world use....it seems pretty bad A. Quality and exactly what I was looking for. I would say more of a performance fit for sure. I’m going to wear it under the puffy. If you want something for over a puffy, you 100% need to size up.

I'm going disagree on the claim that it's quiet. It's the same material about the pants, and I really like the pants, but they are louder than any offering from Sitka. The DeHaviland is definitely louder than the Jetstream. Would it stop me from buying it? No. But there is an audible "swish... swish" sound when moving in the SG softshell stuff.

Buy with confidence either way, but the Jetstream is still the better softshell in my opinion.

Yeah I thought last night I should log in and fix that statement. I was trying it on again and did notice a decent amount of swooshiness.

How would you compare the warmth between the two? Weather resistance?

Jetstream wins. The ability to block out 99% of wind really allows you to stretch it's usefulness into the late season. I can't attest to the DH water resistance, but the Jetstream can comfortably shed light rain, and wet snow. In rifle season I go from hiking in the jetstream with it unzipped to glassing with my puffy over it, works wonderfully.

Yeah for sure. I was thinking about also trying a wind proof vest while hiking in. I think that would do the trick for me.

Well, I now have my hands on both jackets. I figured the best way to know was to try them both. I can't say which will be in my pack more, yet. I'm sure a preference will take hold once I get some field time. Here's a review I did on the De Havilland:

Any updates for this? Was looking at a Kuiu Axis and wanted to see how this compares to it. Don't think it has good as waterproofing at the axis from what I can see.

AXIS is better in my opinion. dehavilland may have edge on breathability.
