DC 827 First Time

I was lucky enough to draw the 827 tag this year. I have air transport set up for mid August. Planning on spending 10 days to try and find a good bull. Any insight or tips on hunting in the unit would be great. Thanks all!

How’d your trip go?

My buddy Luke and I backpacked in early and covered a lot of remote ground. High winds and lots of rain made it really hard to turn up many. We ended up relocating and wheeling deep in and found 2 good bulls, this one being the better of them. This was taken right before is dumped wet cold snow on us and kicking our butts. Good luck and don't forget to enjoy the entire process.

That is some lush habitat where he was hanging out. You can see all the way up the hill dense vegetation. He's thick and healthy too. Was that velvet still on in September?

I'll enjoy all the ups and downs. I get it. Getting out into those remote mountains with views of Denali can't be beat.

Looking forward to hunting them up high and in the nasty cliffy fun stuff. Although looks like ya caught him low and buried in the dense brush. Fun stuff!

HAHA good times buddy!!! Shame we had capacity for 4 rifles and carry 500 pounds of gear each in with us if we wanted and we couldn't muster a full set of dry clothes for either of us in the snowy ride out.

We hunted the 2nd week of August for roughly a week. I couldn't agree more with the view and country. Plus the bugs never became a problem with the wind lol. We never saw another hunter which was awesome. Hope you find a big one.

Luke, that was a cold ass night and morning. Type 1 is the best!
