Day Six EVO vs Iron Will

I’d like to hear your real world results between these two heads

Take away the price tags, the warranties and all that crap.

From a lot of tests I’ve seen the Day Six out penetrated and fly better than the Iron Will even know their stats are basically identical. D6 has the curved blade with more forward, gradual bleeders. The IW has a straight blade with tanto tip and short, flatter bleeders.

I’d love to hear your real world results comparing these two. I know both are great heads - just curious to see if there’s a difference between designs on animals.

Main difference is materials, bleeder location and blade angle. There are plenty of podcasts that go into great detail on this. Your method of sharpening, and the climate you hunt in are probably going to be large factors. If your running a broadhead jig like the KME then the IW is easier to sharpen. If you have a Wicked Edge then the Day 6 will sharpen up in no time. If you hunt in wet environments then the Day 6 will handle corrosion, where the IW will need some maintenance. Both are incredible heads. Bill is active here and is easy to contact on this platform. Brian is also really easy to get a hold of. I have used both on elk, deer, and antelope.......have chipped and broke bleeders on both, and can group good out to 115 yds with both, honestly everything I've shot with them the thing you have to worry about it finding your dang arrow after they pass thru both heads seem to not even slow down after you shoot an animal in my experience. I live in eastern Washington and have used the iw's in the rain for a few days straight but never had any corrosion issues not sure how much rain they can handle before maintenance is required. I've used the warranty on iw and had no issues and fast response and I've also spoke directly to Brian and he's awesome and helped me when I had an issue..........I know this prolly doesn't help much since I said great things about both, I guess if I had to say one thing, getting your replacement blades onto the iw solid blade heads is a little tricky to get straight whereas the day six heads are much easier

Have not shot the IW, but I started using the Day Six EVO X this deer season. Eight white tails have fallen to it, every one a pass through. One was quartering and turned at the shot, and it passed just behind shoulder and exited opposite ham. Day Six is not so easy to sharpen, but at least you can sharpen it whereas every mechanical I shoot is more or less one and one. And once I tuned my bow, these Day Sixes shoot just like field points. Quite pleased with them, and suspect the IW is largely the same.

Individual broadheads have very little to do with blood trails. Blood trails are a product of shot placement and blade retention.

Both work great, iron wills rust easy unless kept well coated with something.

I used IW's this year and had one of my 6 that I simply could not keep from rusting. I tried mineral oil, turbine oil, Vaseline and prayer. It would rust away the edge in a day of hunting.

The other 5 were not bad. I ended up with some superficial surface rust but two strokes on the strop and they wiped clean.

The quality of the head is very good, but I wouldn't use them on an extended hunt if rain is a possibility. I spent an hour a night just fiddling with my heads to dry them and sharpen them...etc.

They take a little more care if hunting in the rain a lot, but there is a huge difference in break strength between .062" A2 Tool Steel and .050" thick Stainless Steel. Check out the recent, independent durability testing on bone by WaptiWear. The blades are all shown at the end of the videos.

Is there any advantages to running a whole arrow/brand specific setup. Like, all D6 or mixing IW's with their hardware on some Easton or Gold Tips?

Have shot a pile of critters with both. Slightly prefer the D6 just because I can sharpen them easier. I have one head that has 5-6 kills and I just resharpen it and it’s good to go again. I like that they don’t rust like the IW. Both are a solid choice.

Thanks, I am thinking I'll probably go D6. Something to be said about uniformity and only having one call to make if I need help.
