Hey folks - new to backcountry hunting and planning my first trip out west next year. I've heard you dont shrimp on a few things when planning, one of those being a quality pair of boots.

Does anyone have any experience with the Danner Crag Rat compared to Lowa, Kenetrek, or other? I currently own a pair of Danner Pronghorns and love them for WI hunting. Dont think they'd be the best for hiking around out west but dont know that for sure.

Thanks for your insight and thoughts.

I just got my danner Thorofares in the mail today. I started a thread in this section and will update. They seem to be a bit more boot than the crag rats. I didn’t have a great experience with a pair of Cabela’s meindl boots some years ago. For a heavy pack I personally like a taller more supportive boot.

I feel good about supporting American workers with the Danner purchase.

I have a pair of danner crag rat USA that i choose over multiple styles of crispis based on how they fit my feet, well built boot but I don't get to wear them much I have too many boots already.

I've thought about selling them just because I don't wear them enough but they've impressed me for a old school USA danner quality.
