Nothing wrong with this new system, i commend CPW and will continue to pay my dues. In regards to hunting pressure, it is also nice that a bunch of guys will no longer pay to play.

Personally I don't think it will have that big of an effect on the number of hunters. Here's one I don't understand........a draw unit I'm very familiar with, the pressure has increased exponentially over the last 10 years..........yet the number of tags has remained the same. From what I heard from this last year, it was 10 times worse in there than an OTC unit.

Colorado was shrewd with putting this change in place. Run one year with $3 points to suck in thousands of applicants who earned their first point on the cheap. Then follow it up the next year with $100 to continue in the system. Reminds me of how casinos hand out "free play" vouchers to get you in the door. It will be interesting to see how many of those first time applicants from last year continue with the program to protect their point status.
I'm not opposed to it though. A system that allows people to buy points at $3 per year is a sham. There just aren't enough limited entry tags available to give everyone a chance without waiting a lifetime. And the game departments certainly need funding.
For me personally, I'm probably done with CO. At age 64 I've got a more than enough points to draw what I want for deer and only a couple of elk points so not enough to hope of ever going where I'd like to hunt again. I've already used points to draw a few great tags in CO. I also have a bunch of points for various things in other states to carry me into my 70's before I cash them all out. It's time for somebody else to enjoy what I already have done.

I'm still afraid people are just b**ching and moaning about the fee increases, but will still apply, but we shall see. I am hopeful that some of the lower point archery elk tags don't experience a point increase, as I have my eyes set on some of those hunts

Not really upset about having to buy a license since they did away with PP fees for elk, deer, and antelope, but they really messed up my moose strategy. I'd had hoped that eventually after racking up cheap moose points for a while that I could actually hunt moose in Colorado, but now at 100 bucks a year plus the tag fee, by the time I would draw the tag I could have spent that on a moose hunt in Alaska or Canada whenever I want. Might still buy sheep points, but everything else doesn't seem worth it now for me. You better believe I'm gonna be keeping an eye out for small game too. Gonna keep a lot more G5 small game points in my quiver this year

On another note, at least this is something one has a legitimate reason to complain about because these are large sums of money to many people. In my home state of PA, HUNTERS of all people are all butt hurt because the PGC wants to give us an earlier start to deer season and was gonna let us hunt with semiautos like the rest of the country.

I do hope it doesn't mess the point system up to bad as a new guy who has a few elk points over the years who now wishes I would have been doing deer as well.

Just did applications for Colorado and regardless of what you think of the fee increases, I found the application to work quite well this year. I rarely give them compliments but it went very smoothly. If anyone is for sure drawing for a tag, I'd put in early vs waiting for the last day. Way less stressful.

Do you mean a habitat stamp? I could have sworn it automatically added a habitat stamp when I selected the small game and fishing license.

It added my habitat stamp automatically as well

That's kind of what I thought. A person doesn't pay for their HIP number, but they must complete the survery to get the number in order for their license to be valid to actually hunt with.

For HIP you just call the number or go online to complete the survey. At the end of the survey they give you the HIP number. It asks questions about small game you hunted last year and whay you intend to do this year. There is no cost and you can finish in a few minutes. I believe the last few years I have talked to a real person when calling in. It is easy and impossible to goof up as long as you have a pen/marker.

ON X, GoHunt, Blah blah and blah. All these things are making people more knowledgeable about hunting big game, and good spots are getting more and more crowded. "Road hunting" is like a bad word on some internet forums. That used to be a strategy awhile back. Times are changing. IMO
