DAMN. It's gonna be a long year....................

I don't gut much of anything, I skin and take the meat.

As for the topic.....I don't get too excited about deer. I turned in a late season 13 point tag this year for a couple reasons, but I don't even feel like I missed anything. Elk on the other hand........
I've been field-dressing 'gutless' for about 15 years, but I do take the liver, heart, tenderloins...

I'm just the opposite usually, although most of this year was spent elk hunting to help friends, I would rather hunt big mulies. Elk are for eating and deer are to look at . Plus they are much easier to pack out.

I've been mulling over the regs trying to plan out dates for next year too. It's going to be hard but I'm going to try for non-resident deer and elk tags this year plus a trip to Kodiak. I missed out on a Coues in AZ so I still need my 4th deer species and it looks like it will be a Sitka before a Coues.

Referring to the late season cows hunt. If your concerned with killing two elk. Guys can always try and spot the younger cows. Or yearlings. They won't be bred and will yield the best tasting meat! But yes if you kill a cow in September, October, November. It could still be pregnant.

Only in January you might have a little something extra to throw on the grill! Lol. Just kidding

Both.

It's been awhile since I've done any deer hunting. Forgot how little meat are on these things......and how thin the skin is compared to an elk. Kept cutting through the skin while skinning.

I wish I could still be hunting but have yet to find any good private hunting ground around here. I believe that all the List B elk tags around the Southwest Colorado are for private only?

It's killing me. Every year I feel like the few weeks after the season ends are just as anxious feeling as the few weeks before. I've been seeing some nice bucks in their winter range...

Same with me, I use this time of year to get out fishing or hunting small game.
