Expecting #1 and it's registry building time. Since my input on breast pumps and jogging strollers isn't really that significant, I'd be interested on some experienced dad's input on their "dad bag" so I can put something on the registry that I can feel confident in and look forward to, aside from the nursery glider.

What's a dad bag? I've got 4, only bag I ever took/used was the diaper bag. Always packed and ready to go with anything you will need

Get one of these or something similar. I carried both my boys pretty much everywhere I went when they were kids.

Even my wife preferred one of these to a normal kid carrier, way more comfortable amd versatile than a stroller.

Osprey poco plus. And give some input of the jogging stroller, you want big air filled tires, like a Thule or Bob.
Yes, if you are going to do a stroller do the one that takes your carseat. So nice to just move your sleeping kid from the carseat into the stroller base when you get where you are going.

Something like this.

That osprey is real nice to have. If you’re talking about a diaper bag, check out the tactical baby gear bag. I really like how it’s set up, plenty of space, a compartment for the wipes that’s easily accessible and it has a spot that keeps snacks cold. It’s definitely nice having your own diaper bag.

You want the Bob stroller. Get the car seat attachment. Do not buy a regular stroller, just get the jogger.

Any bag can carry diapers and clothes. I like messenger bags better than backpacks, so I got one from Timbuktu. Get a roll of dog poop bags to keep the nasty stuff wrapped up til you can get home.

Here are something’s I’ve found:

Backpack diaper bag, frees up a hand.

A Bob stroller with the car seat clips.

A good glider rocker… makes it easier to get them to sleep.

Two car seat bases. One for each rig

Get the baby started on bottles, formula or breast milk. It’s just easier.

Plan on spending twice as much money as you budgeted and three times as many hours.

Do twice as much as is expected of you, it’ll pay dividends forever.

Good advice above. We have a bob & regular stroller. The regular one never gets used. The bob is great. Get some battery powered Christmas lights and put them on the stroller & your kid will love it.

I took my Osprey poco and strapped it to my Kifaru duplex frame. Gets lots of use.

Not gear related but know that your kid will watch you like a hawk & soaks up what you do like a sponge. It’s cool & terrifying at the same time. Never thought a lawn mower, shovel for , or the vaccum would be so damn exciting.

Personally (5 kids, does NOT make me an expert) I always used a standard backpack. When they were little I'd carry them in a Baby Bjorn which is a front-carry baby sling, so a backpack is easy to throw on your back. When they were older and walking, same story.

I hated shoulder bags because you're always bending down to stop them from running into traffic (apple didn't roll that far from the tree...) and a backpack stops that. And there's plenty of room for diapers and the various extra bits, snacks, etc. When they get older this morphs into books to get them to fall asleep, a towel because MY offspring instantly beeline for any body of water like a freaking bird dog, no matter how muddy, hats, sunscreen, etc. Side water-bottle pockets and top pockets for quick access to bandaids (which I bought in bulk), etc. It's perfect.

Lots of good advice here. I’d get just a typical daypack you like and don’t mind making “kid only.”

Until they’re eating solids, it’s mostly going to be packed with a few diapers, wipes, an extra outfit (always bring one), burp rags, and maybe a bottle or two if you’re using those. When they get a little older, you’re adding snacks and some toys for distractions.

Honestly, you can probably just get by at the start with a decent sized hip pack for 90% of your outings with a newborn.

Congratulations!

Timbuk2 makes some nice bags; you can repurpose it when diapers aren’t necessary.

The guns that go with each of these bags are locked in the safe. In the bags are ammunition, gun specific cleaning kits, and holsters. This way, when heading out I only need to grab a gun and the bag that goes with it. Each bag has more than one kind of ammo, the .454 bag has .454, .45 Colt, and shot shells that I make out of .444 Marlin brass. The 10mm bag has “mountain” loads, and “desert” loads.

If you’re looking for a pack to carry baby in go with the osprey poco. Also get the rain cover for it. It adds an extra layer to keep wind and precipitation off your kiddo. I have a 9 month old and have been using that since he could hold his head up. He rides so smooth he falls asleep half the time.
