Anyone cut a tikka barrel that was shooting well and then it shot poorly after the barrel was cut?

My tikka roughtech 6.5 with a 24” barrel shoots really well but would like to make it more nimble and lighter weight by cutting it down to 18” (I shoot suppressed)

Changing the length of the barrel, changes harmonics and muzzle velocity for sure. This can/will change the precision of a tuned load. As long as the smith cuts a good crown, and true threads to the bore, it shouldn't have any ill affect on the accuracy potential. Hopefully you're cutting to add your supressor!

I just had a 6.5 CM and a 223 cut to 19" for a can. Mild POI shift, but both shoot as good or better than before with factory ammo.

You’ll likely have to develop a new load like others said due to harmonics. However, mine I just chopped still liked the same load, but that’s not a given at all.

It sounds like there's a new myth that needs busted.

Barrel crowns.

Now I want to cut mine with a hacksaw to see what happens
