“Custom” Tikka or Seekins Havak PH2

I’ve always had moa scopes from when I was a kid. Is the switch to mil that difficult?

Nope. It makes the math easier. It's easier to round to the nearest tenth than it is to the nearest quarter.

Switch to Mil is easy. Really depends how you "use" the systems though. If using the angular measurements in the appropriate manner, Mils is quicker and more useful. If a guy just wants to measure at 100 yards and say that's X inches and thus X MOA off, its a little different. Really, the reticle should be used to measure offset, not a ruler.

For the guys that just have to know how many clicks to move an inch at 100 yards.. a mil scope adjusted 3 clicks (0.3 mil) is 1.03 MOA or roughly the same as a MOA adjusted 4 clicks.

The NXS 2.5-10x42 is the only light option. I've got 2 and they are fantastic.

Over magnification usually causes way more issues than it solves. Variable power scopes are just one more thing to fuss with and slow folks down when trying to kill an animal. It causes them to not get animals in their scope in variable terrain where the animal is camouflaged, and even more so, after the shot, not being able to follow the animal and watch where it ends up, or if a follow up shot is needed (most of who I hunt with these days shoots them a second time even if it’s not “needed”).

In shooters that I’ve seen, over magnification and fussing with “zoom” is one of the leading causes to missed animal opportunities and is THE number one issue with not getting a second shot off after a miss (other bad habits lead to this as well though).

My Maven RS1.2s almost never leave 6-8x. From shots in the woods at 20 yards to 800+ yards. The only time I like the extra zoom is on very niche use cases. One of those being coues deer where I live in Arizona and down in Mexico. They blend in so well and are so small that going up to 10-12x can be helpful in some instances. With that being said, I’ve killed multiple 500+ yard coues deer with a fixed SWFA 6 power scope.

I’m running in circles trying to figure out what to do with my hunting rifle in 6.5 PRC. I currently have a Tikka stainless in the Stockys VG stock. I’m considering moving it over to a manners eh1 and ordering an 18/20” prefit barrel over a Black Friday sale. The easy button is the Seekins PH2. The barrel will be longer than I really want, but will come threaded. I’ll be into the Tikka for more money after the manners and barrel. What would you all do!

Barrel and rokstok would be my choice, but I do like the ph2

You have time now, so getting a rokstok should not be a problem, and would personally way rather have that than the eh1

I would like to try the RokStok. I’m leaning towards just cutting/threading the stock barrel and shooting it as is until I can get a rokstok to try.

Reach out here for people in your area that have one you could try, I bet you wouldn’t need to go far, and I think it’s really a good option. They turned out really well, and I will keep buying tikkas and putting them in rokstoks, makes for a perfect rifle

It takes basically no thought/effort to switch to MILs if you're using the scope properly. A lot of people think of it as "inches vs centimeters" and it is not. The scope adjusts in angular units and you have a ruler in front of your eye that is in those angular units. As long as you keep that in mind it's effortless.

Where do you see a prefit barrel for $385? Is that directly through ace or somewhere else? And that’s for a tikka?

Was for a tikka last year Black Friday bought my wife one when her stock 7mm08 wasn’t shooting. Will be looking for another this year. Be it ace,bartlein, bench mark, proof, etc.. they all shoot great for my purpose. 350-500 pretty regularly prefit

This is tough. The last two rifles I bought were a Seekins PH2 in 6mm Creedmoor and the much loved on here, Tikka .223

They are both very accurate but man I love that PH2. With the SHV scope I put on it, it is much heavier than the Kimber I was carrying, but boy, the confidence this rifle gives me is worth it.
I would get mild anxiety if I as looking at a 300 yard shot with the 5lb Kimber, but with the PH2 it's nothing.

After a couple shots to get on paper the Seekins put 5 rounds of 108gr box Hornady match into a half inch.

I like the Seekins I ponder this thing a lot but 385 for an ace prefit or 800 ish for a proof. If you have an action I don’t know why you wouldn’t keep it… unless you just have to have the itch to buy a manners

The echelon stock has a lot better ergos than the peak 44 if you're leaning tikka. It's lighter to.
Anyone waiting for the rokstock light should give it a hard look.

Current scope is a vx5hd. I’m probably going to go to nightforce for durability on this though. Rings are UM. Suppressor is OCL Hydrogen S 6.5

Has your vx5hd failed you ? I’ve looked at the ph2 for over a year just haven’t pulled the trigger on one. Reviews are great , their customer service is great but they run a smidge heavy & I have concerns on the ph2 lop. My 3 choices for my next deer rifle are 6.5 prc in either another CA ridgeline or trying havak ph2 or browning x bolt 2. Not one of your options but I’d buy a new x bolt 2 speed sr before spending a crap load on tikka.
