I am looking for advice on new strings for my Mathews Halon. I have heard great things about Winners Choice and Vapor Trail, but have no experience with either of these companies. Look for some input from guys who are using either of these companies.

Most of them are using the same materials (BCY Fibers made here in CT!) so it comes down to reputation and attention to detail. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the well known custom string makers. Vapor trail, winners choice, 60x, hogwire, all make great strings.

I used to use both and have moved on as I had problems with both.

It has been a long time since I've used the Winner's Choice so they may have improved. I had trouble with the durability of their serving so I stopped using them. That was around the time when they were starting to get big and IMO they had some quality control issues.

I used WC for several years and then had some issues with them as well. I had trouble getting the correct lengths of cables on a bow and a friend had the same issues on a couple of different bows. I ended up having to send them my stock cables and string after they sent me two sets that were too long. I couldn't twist them enough to get within 5lbs of my peak weight. They have great customer service but I wasn't happy with the issues.

Over the years, I have shot many different string companies.

VaporTrail was by far the worst quality and was quite shocked based on their reputation. They were FAST ! Very FAST! I sent them back. They refunded my money.

Winners Choice: I am mixed here. One set I had was close if not the best string I have ever owned. The next set was so bad, it was like a 3rd grader made it.

Korbins: Very good reputation, i have yet to se why. Shipped me wrong bow string. Took care of it, shipped me another for free. String has not been good. Very unstable and serverd very odd on the Y Cable.

I am a big believer of the customer string makers on archery talk. They are small and take the time to make them perfect. The best I have used and been around with buddies has to go to https://parknsonsarchery.com

Personally I wouldn't use either. There are better makers that are better quality at the same price or less.

JBK, 60x, hogwire, tony219, ex wolverine to name a few.

Ray knight if you like brownell material over BCY

I've used both of the companies you are thinking about and kept using vaportrail, their vtx strings are awesome. I had no reason to switch from vaportrail except I picked up a set of 60x fury threads last fall so I will try them out this summer.

I wasn't impressed with WC at all. Bought those in 2007 and never regretted taking them off. I have 60x on one bow and another 60x set sitting on my bench. The ABB's that came on my Freak have been fine, no complaints. I've had Proline's on my Old Glory for I think 4 years now, and they just keep going. At least 30k arrows shot out of them. Bucknasty's were good too.

I also think that factory strings have gotten a lot better. I haven't had a set of factory strings from Bowtech or Hoyt "settle" or move any more than my custom sets in 7 or 8 years. The serving quality is where I see the difference between custom and factory strings anymore. The factory serving doesn't hold up well, especially on the Hoyt's.

I change mine now so I have a spare set ready to go, not over quality issues. I shoot the factory strings in and then take them off, leaving the peep tied in and the D-loop attached. If I need to change them mid season or during a hunt they are ready to go.

My last several sets have come from Parknsons/Ex Wolverine, he makes good stuff.

I've heard really good things about Hogwire strings and my conversations via email with the guy have been very positive. I was all set to replace the string on my aging BT Allegiance then I bought a new Elite, which came with a WC string. Still wanna try one out, maybe turn the WC into a back up.
