How many other roksliders have been promised a finish date by a barrel or rifle builder then that date comes and goes are promised again and that date comes and goes again….. might be the most frustrating thing. Rather be told an honest date even if its over estimated from the start.

You’re not alone - ever since the large contracts came along that are going to Europe and causing shortages here, it seems lead times are more a rough suggestion than an actual date.

I’ve resisted ordering the exact barrel I wanted and settled on one that’s pretty close but in stock. I may just wait next time - it’s hard to love something that’s not quite right. Lol

whatd you order. carbon 6?

Things happen. I had a reamer bust a flute before I finished the first plunge once. I had to wait for ptg to build a new one. If I had promised that barrel to a customer, I can't deliver it without the right reamer.

I 100% understand frustration, but in this game speed of delivery is one of the least important factors.

For what it’s worth, I would say the majority of manufacturers in the US are WAY behind schedule. That’s from an overall viewpoint going far beyond firearm manufacturers.

Totally understand, but if that happens a 10 second email saying it will be delayed and why would make a happy customer, just my 2 cents. Haha just want my barrel to start load dev, hunting season is like 2 months away or less

I think it's the norm. Most of these are small companies are in a place where demand quickly becomes overwhelming but growth in the form of Machines, space and people is difficult.

The worst IMO is manners stocks, that's an old Indian word for VERY SLOW delivery time.

Sounds like i need to get into the gun building business, and be able to scale quickly. The demand is definitely there

You aren’t wrong. No better time to get into a career than when demand is sky high. (Although when your supplier is behind schedule you get to be the one to break the bad news to them)

I've always sourced my own barrels to send off to be chambered. That way I'm not twiddling my thumbs waiting on someone else. I have two Manners stocks and bought them both in-stock and only waited a week for each one to ship to me. Maybe I'm lucky? I just have no patience and feel like I can assemble a rifle as good as the next guy. The machine work is what sets it apart.

Yeah...unless a smith has an excellent reputation for fast turnaround, and promises a done-by date, it's best to just assume it'll take months. It's a bit like working on a car or your house - the only safe way to estimate the actual time and costs involved is to give it your most competent effort in tallying it all, and then triple it.

Dealing with someone making a barrel is keeping me away from a couple of builds right now. Waiting 6 months and paying $800+ for a custom barrel that is unlikely to outshoot a decent factory barrel isn't very appealing.
PVA has a compressed lead time option for $100 or $200 depending on the rush. That will likely be where I go next, unless LS Wild has what I want in stock.

I look at it like taxidermy. You arent getting it back anytime soon. I just dropped off a Howa Mini at Bug Holes to get a new barrel on my 6 ARC. I might see it by deer season and if I do, won't have much time for load development.
