Does anybody have any experience hunting in G3’s? I’m thinking if they’re good enough and durable enough for SF then they’re good enough for me.

It is generally a mistake to think that because some organization uses something, that it means anything positive. Or negative.

G3’s are going to be slimmer fit than most pants, they favor durability more than weight/comfort/stretch, and they will take longer to dry than pants made of different materials. I would lean more towards the G4 for hunting, but other pants before either.

Crye makes awesome purpose driven gear and clothing. Their pants are extremely functional for combat and tactical applications. In my experience they have proven to be extremely durable. But, in my opinion they are not appropriate for hunting. They are made from extremely heavy material and when they get wet they weigh a ton. They don't stretch nearly as well as some of the hunting pants on the market. They are also incredibly expensive.

I wore a pair of G3s turkey hunting in Oklahoma a few years ago. The knee pads were a blessing but the combo is a little on the heavier side. I now wear a lighter pair of pants with Arc'teryx knee caps. For the cost and weight, I wouldn't get a pair of Crue pants for hunting unless you're military or LE and they'll pull double duty.

Great pants and a reason they are the “standard“ in the tactical world. For hunting they are less good IMO. There are far better fabrics than cotton for hunting and staying dry. All that Velcro is noisy. A dirty little secret about crye pants is those knee pads can snag on brush and pop out. You will be lucky to find them. To boot, they aren’t cheap. Far more expensive than even top end hunting brands.

as someone said above, if I had them for work, would I hunt in them? Sure. Especially if I had a job where someone else was paying for them. I have also hunted in good old bdu pants too And they work fine for $50. would I buy them vs other hunting pants? No. There are far better and cheaper options that will serve a hunters needs well.

Heavy (relatively) and the crotches are prone to ripping out. Best flame retardant pant out there, but where I hunt I don’t always watch out for IED’s laced with accelerants.
