But not as crispy as my father likes it. His could pass as a dehydrated meal the way he likes it cooked lol.
 
It's bacon.....I'll eat it either way. But I prefer not crispy in a sandwich. If it's crispy, half of it ends up in my lap. It still gets eaten, but I prefer it staying inside the sandwich.

Back when everyone was buying toilet paper at the start of covid, I was buying bacon. I filled up a 7 cu ft freezer with it. But that was all gone some time ago. I eat a lot of bacon. I cook up several pounds for elk season every year......it's my jerky. When I was young a study came out that said "bacon causes cancer". My lifelong pursuit has been to prove them wrong. 40+ years since that time and still no cancer.......Lord willing.
 
My grandpa when we would be at a cafe would always order his bacon "Well done. Black. Burnt." and he would pause for effect then add "if the cook questions if it's done or not it's not done. If a fire alarm doesn't go off its not done."

I like crispy. Luckily I didn't get the gene that wanted bacon that done, but every now and then I'll try it his way for the memories.
 
I think they were/are drunk.
Cardiac patients and people prone to gout. My dad falls into both categories (he didn't vote on the poll though). I don't agree with his abstaining, but he seems quite sure his doctors know more about it than me. And in fairness, I have no opinion on whether it's healthy or not; my point to him is, what is a life without bacon?
 
Growing up my grandma floured her bacon before frying. It’s still my favorite way to eat it. The outside gets crispy and the inside melts in your mouth. Grease also doesn’t pop when cooking it either.
Never heard of that before. Going to have to try it
 
What's your secret for even slices? I did this once and not only was it a time consuming, greasy mess, I had a very hard time cutting even slices. It was amazingly delicious though!
Google "Globe 500L meat slicer". That's what I got. Procured it on the cheap from a catering outfit that was going out of business.

Electric Slicer. :) Knife is a pain in the ass.
 
Anybody tried any of the big-brand "steak cut" bacons? I can get the Daily's in my local Safeway for right around the same price per pound as anything labeled "thick"

IMO bacon can be "too" thick. It can get pretty chewy when it's too thick. And if you go for crisp, it sometimes just gets hard instead of crisp.

I've had super thick stuff like that at Bacon Social House in Denver, they managed to cook it so it was very meaty and tender with a nice crust on the outside. I think you'd have to do it in the oven and experiment a bit with temps and times to get it just right. I've also thought it would be great for anything calling for chopped bacon or bacon bits. Soups, salads, potatoes, etc. One of these days I'm going to pick some up to experiment with.

That looks great, but I'm seeing them used for $1k. Are there any other less expensive options out there that anyone would recommend?
