I used these on my 7 day hunt in Colorado. I hiked about 5-7 miles a day. I hunt a small piece of private property and am limited to day hikes.
Out of the box comfort- the boots fit great, no blisters or slipping. I would note that this boot seems to fit a little wide and I was getting some internal slipping when heavy side hilling. I tried some alternate lacing and seemed to control this.
Insole - they are good for using as a template for a better insole. I went with the Spenco earthbound. This met my needs and expectation.
Sole design - I'm giving this an average rating on how well they release mud, no need to lug extra weight. If the mud was real wet it was there but released as it dried.
Waterproof - the goretex did great, no wet feet on a very wet hunt. The boot has 3 different leather types. The bottom is a very durable abrasion resistant material. It stayed dry. The upper leather was very comfortable, but got very wet. I tried to waterproof them before the hunt and was disappointed with the product. It was a redhead spray for goretex material. I should have spent more time tracking down some nikwax. My feet stayed dry, but this leather soaked up water and I would recommend a better exterior water repellent product than I used.
Overall I'm pleased with the boots, especially for an internet purchase.
I also used some darn tough socks, they were a thin over the calf ski model I found on sale. I really like the socks, the combo worked well together.
