Traditionally you could grab 1st rifle reliably as a second choice in certain areas (Meeker/flat tops in particular.) My plan A states are usually drawn by the time CO publishes results.

I’ve drawn that a few times on a second choice in the past and surrendered my tag because my plan A worked out.

All that being said, given the herd health I’m expecting tag allocation to be reduced and that probably won’t be a good plan this year.

Ended up hunting bear after the winter kill and tags being cut after our applications were submitted last year. Hopefully their quick action speeds up the herds rebound.
